The economy is improving across all measures.

They can't be evicted until January, Trump has extended unemployment, and the economy is improving, so there is still no apparent reason for it now. Maybe in December, maybe in February, but not right now.

So no help for the unemployed and in January everyone gets evicted.

Sounds like a typical GOP plan.

Stimulus has an economic purpose. There is no need for economic stimulus at this point with the economy recovering. What you want is welfare and/or free money.

Oh sure, I'm not denying that, but why does that mean that aid shouldn't go to those who need it?

I think you're understanding is gravely wrong.

But go ahead and show us why you come to that understanding.

A filibuster is a political strategy in which a senator speaks—or threatens to speak—for hours on end to delay efforts to vote for a bill. The unusual tactic takes advantage of a U.S. Senate rule that says a senator, once recognized on the floor, may speak on an issue without being impeded by anyone. While various rule changes have tempered the filibuster’s power over the past century, it still offers unique leverage to the minority political party in the Senate.

Did I miss the actual filibutster?

Because there is no "to those who need it" in the proposal. I don't need it. I shouldn't be get a check. My coworkers throughout don't need it. They shouldn't be getting a check. If it were just rental assistance or unemployment benefits, it would be COVID relief. That is not what they are pushing for. They are pushing for another general population check. It is not necessary at this point in time. They need to wait until it is.

I agree you didn't see a Dem stand up and speak to block it...like they did back in the day with Civil Rights....but the threat has been a used over the years...it's why for example the Dems took the Nuclear Option on judicial nominations.

So McConnell had the threat...hence why teh media says the Dems blocked the Relief Act

The eviction moratorium does not pay the rent, so the landlords may still go broke before January and no money is saved if the intent is to pay the rent. If it's not going to be paid then you can add bankruptcy to the list.
Trump's "play" unemployment has already run out of money, since it only lasted six weeks.

Then people have time to acquire cardboard boxes. Another $1200 check isn't going to pay 3 months rent

Why are Democrats stopping COVID relief stimulus?

Because they think they can get the state and local government bailouts by waiting for a Biden administration. It has nothing to do with Covid.

What they hope to achieve, as I understand it, is a comprehensive aid package that will help those who need it most. The GOP plan has too little funding for unemployment, rent and mortgage security, ensured safety for essential workers, and bailout money for tens of thousands of small businesses ... not effing restaurant chains but actual neighborhood businesses like hair salons and clothing boutiques. The Republicans like McConnell are focused on making sure that the poor don't get much help, and that businesses that don't feel like spending the money it takes to make their workers safe from the virus won't get sued for it if their workers get sick and die.

You know what he is talking about. It isn't a bill. It was the $600 weekly federal unemployment subsidy.

    Threats are not a filibuster.
    That's another congressional cop out.

Make the opposition filibuster, not just talk about it.

Then you understand what a real filibuster is.
Not just the talk about doing a filibuster. And that is the point I was making.
