Speaking of obstructive, we have had 4 years of constant obstruction in any and every form possible. Get ready for Amy Barret on the bench.

Not like they needed an impeachment mechanism last time. They just pulled it straight out of their asses.

They didn't lie, the POTUS and the Senate are of the same party unlike the 2016 opposition. So it's all a go.

Pelosi is bluffing with nothing to bluff with. The SCOTUS vacancy is directly linked to the Article 2 authority to nominate a candidate to a seat on the Supreme Court..

The Senate can't take on an Impeachment trial until the House goes through their process that requires evidence and witness testimony to establish a list of articles to present to the Senate.

The Democrats have nothing within their power that can Constitutionally stop the process other than to try to convince Republican Senators to vote against the nominee.

I'm sure those scroundrels have some way of making noise, that's been the Pelosi House motto since 2018.

That the leaders lie is a travesty, but that their supporters lap it up. Pathetic.

It is part of the Senate impeachment rules IIRC to take up the matter as soon as it arrives which would then put everything else on hold like a SCOTUS hearing. The senate could change the rules, but to do so opens that vote up to a filibuster.

The senate rules are available on line. Feel free to cite.

The senate can also summarily dismiss an impeachment charge - and will almost certainly do so in this case.

Good point. She doesn't know how the nominee will vote in the supreme court. She would do better to impeach a couple of known quantities. Give someone impeachment power and people will drop like flies. :)

Allegedly they have to address it first and foremost, which would effectively block any hearings or movement forward for the scotus pick.

I predict they try but almost certainly the senate just dismisses it immediately with their voting power and move on immediately.

If republicans want this to to through, I predict is does and Impeachment just gives Trump more marks of honor.

Just replying here to supply information. In the case of an impeachment, all other Senate work is set aside, as I understand it. So it would be a delaying tactic.

I'm not sure if, once articles of impeachment are delivered from the House to the Senate, the Senate has any other choice besides immediately taking up that impeachment trial, & postponing all other work until that trial has ended.

Sure, but the Senate would see through the transparently-partisan maneuver and dismiss the impeachment charges in a matter of minutes. Or alternatively, they could tell the impeachment managers they can present their case from midnight to 4:00 am, the senators can go home and gets some sleep, and that a vote would be held at 8:00 am the following morning.

You're right about that last point; the Democrats can only try to delay, & I seriously doubt they would attempt another Impeachment on a lame-duck Trump. But do you expect Speaker Pelosi to say, "Yeah, they got us by the short hairs, here; we're completely powerless." That's not how leadership works. How often does McConnell admit he's got a losing hand (he has lost, on occasion, even w/ the Senate majority). Your taking her literally implies that you have a higher expectation of straight-forwardness from her than from Republican leaders.

Obama was a lame duck President with no chance for re-election, Trump can win a second term or not. If you believe in progressive values, what are ya worried about. If the people don't like Trump's pick, they can vote him out. BTW Obama was termed out.

The house would have to complete the impeachment process which takes time that the senate can use to confirm the nominee. Secondly, setting aside all other work when an impeachment is received is a senate rule, not a law or in the constitution. and can be changed by the senate. The senate can try the impeachment at any time it chooses.

What rights and who is the others? How can she impeach a President who is carrying out his Constitutional duties and responsibilities? Should the DOJ arrest her for passing a bill the President doesn't support?

Nope, there is no constitutional requirement as to when the Senate holds the "trial".
