Relax Daniel, I mis-read the story. You can bring your candy bars to the check out, but the grocer can no longer place them there to entice you to eat poorly. Mia culpa. \
Taking them away from you altogether will come later.... Pretty obvious the liberals do think they know what is best for us.

Anti-abortion Republicans. Anti-gay marriage Republicans. Pretty obvious, the conservatives do think they know what's best for us. We can all play that game.

Telling businesses how they should operate is even worse.

I think they may be taxed later due to the healthcare costs to society, same as cigarettes - the precedent was already set there

Why is the Opie keep claiming that food is being taken away. it's still on the shelf it's just not being displayed in ways that purposely promote impulse buys. That is why the food is by the check Lanes to begin with, because store is high in psychologists who told them exactly where to put it to promote people to buy it on impulse.

Is the op simply mad that he has to walk 10 feet now to buy a $2 candy bar that's only worth $0.50?

All could, some do on both sides. I'm neither of those you mention. For me the key factor is that you are responsible for your own decisions snd the consequences of them, until the impose on someone else.
If we could all respect that- we could all get along.

The part you might want to be concerned with it

"The council’s decision to move unhealthy items away from the register hinges on the duplicitous ways the food environment affects consumer choices."

Do you need someone to control your eating habits by putting the cookie's on top the fridge out of reach out of site :(

It has indeed been set. However we do that with many things we know to be consistently harmful, such as major drugs.

Candy on the other hand is not so; not universally unhealthy. A great many things are unhealthy for some people, but it depends on their particular system. For instance, I probably have a top-level sweet tooth and eat a lot of sugars and junk food. So does Warren Buffet, and he's a very fit and sharp man at 86. Many times I've been asked why I'm not fat, or that my cholesterol must be through the roof. Then on a physical, the nurse says "I'd die to have your cholesterol numbers", and my wife mumbles "it's not fair" again

Difference- good genes in that respect. It's like spoons. They seem to make some people fat, have no effect on others. I expect the liberals in CA to eventually ban spoons too..... :)

Yes- I misunderstood the article. Already posted a note saying Mia culpa; the law just makes grocers take those high-sugar treats away from the checkout.
I still don't like the precedent of the telling grocers where to stock what, but the law does not preclude you buying junk food after all.

You give them 3 feet, they take a mile. If they really cared about public health, they would make junk food and sweetened beverages off limits for food stamps/EBT/SNAP.

How come the party that claims to be highly intelligent needs the government to think for them?

I think the question is why they allow others to think for them. Could be they can't manage themselves and expect others to make life work....

Imagine what will happen when the federal government places the terms and conditions you must follow to qualify for universal health care.

It no difference bro! Regardless where they hide them from site, It's just more oversight where oversight isn't needed.. But as we see, some are actually grateful for the nanny state rules ;)

Where do they get the authority under the law to dictate how a grocery store will lay out it's floor plan and sell it's space to suppliers? Is this the America you want?

When they mean "sold", they mean that the item is located there by the store to be sold. They don't mean that the financial transaction can't take place within 3 feet of a candy bar. If you read the bill, its very clear it is only meant to keep the items from being placed in the checkout areas. Even if the law was misinterpreted in that ludicrous way, customers could simply move the cart 3 feet away during the financial transaction which isn't difficult. Unless you can show that the law will be interpreted this way, you don't have a leg to stand on.

Cali will just levy a SUGAR tax, that's the way that state rolls  Then customers will pay $10 buck for a bag of chips..
