California governor Gavin Newsome has declared the the sale of NEW gasoline powered automobiles will be illegal in 2035 and thereafter. They will only permit the sale of non polluting NEW vehicles beyond this date.

It would appear that he has over stepped his authority. Wouldn't that require the California legislature to go along with this?

I've never been opposed to electrical vehicles, or bringing them to market.

What I am opposed to is forced legislation commanding a requirement to buy them or subsidizing them.

Let the technology stand on its own. If it wins out, great.

2035? Maybe by then, except for a couple of rich guys in hovercrafts, they'll all be homeless, and it won't matter.

Can't wait til Californians realize in the year 2035 they won't be able to charge their cars during the blackouts.

Give me a plastic tube long enough and a tank of gasoline to stick it in and I'll fill my tank.

They have the worst air quality because of their huge population and number of vehicles on the road. They have the most to lose, their lives.

And used gasoline powered cars ultimately, self defeating. Given that they can't keep the power on for their current electric needs what makes the idiot Newsom think that's doable? Does he plan on keeping Can shut down in perpetuity?

And every future politician will be able to blame outside factors and postpone it. So, this is a nothingburger.

pretty much, this is just trying to take credit for something in the future that may or may not happen

if it doesn't, they just push the date back

it's like Trump taking credit for the vaccine, even though there has been no conversations between the White House and vaccine makers

Trump says will be released November 1st, if it's not, he will say Dec 1st, ect....

like the Virus will be gone by April.. May.. June.. July.. Aug.... Sept.... Oct.... someday Trump will be right

They could have simply put a 10% tax on regular gas-powered vehicles.

Maybe he knew that wouldn't have been enough to goad people to electric vehicles, or maybe he was too stupid to even think about that.

I don't think ordinary Californians realize how expensive electric cars are going to be, or all their special limitations.
It's also going to be a big problem with the electric power grid in the state becoming less and less reliable, as they have been switching more to wind/solar, as well as all the fires that have made them shutdown power.
And then this wind/solar is so expensive, it's hard to have plenty of reserve power on standby for special situations.

It seems things are being transformed into a Third World, where only the rich will have cars.
The unwashed masses will be forced to take public transportation, too bad for them.

Electric vehicles are coming down in price quickly as more brands come on the market and battery life increases.

I think 15 years is too soon. And they started it without a clear replacement vehicle in mind.

But, over the past few days, I've been looking into Tesla and Elon Musk said that they expect to make a $25,000 rechargeable electric car in 3 years. (It will probably be a bit longer in reality.)

The big thing, however, is the move to electric charging stations being available (and finding the right charging plug for the model of electric car you own). Here's a website which has a map of charging stations: https://www.plugshare.com/

Once solid state batteries or another better battery comes along, electric cars will be the norm - just waiting on technology

Effing brilliant. They can't handle electricity demands now how are they going to power the millions of cars in that state???? California has 6.5% of all the cars in the US. We are getting closer to one car per every person in the US. Yikes!!!!

There are too many cars in cities. Most of the time your car is parked up doing nothing I see a future where no one has a car kept in the city. Some will still have cars parked up on outskirts of town ready for out of town driving but that number dying off naturally. All cars on roads within cities become self driving hired cars requested when needed.

I doubt that any new non-electric cars will even be made in 2035, so Newsom will look like a prophet.
