The strategy was simple, the more chaos surrounding Biden, the harder it would be for him to articulate a coherent reply in his 2 minutes. So Trump harassed, bullied and filibustered constantly to keep Biden off his game. If he is already personally disliked mistrusted and perceived as a bully, by voters before he came into the debate and he is still gaining ground, he's not going to lose votes that were not there anyway so he might as well try to destroy Biden and put more doubts in voters about Biden's cognitive status using these slimy scummy amoral tactics. Ideally, the solution is for moderators to control the microphone feed and turn off each candidates mike when their time is up, and turn on the mike for the other guy after he has finished posing the question. But that is probably considered a 'change in the rules' and Trump will never agree. If I were Biden I might refuse to debate without that change.
The news cycle today linked Hillary with the Russians. https://nypost.com/2020/09/29/cia-t...nton-conjured-trump-russia-scandal-spy-chief/
Huh? He was the Worst "Moderator" Ever... In the next debate (IF there is one), the Moderator needs to have the power to MUTE Trump's Mic...
That is a Must... Unless Trump agrees, there should be no more debates... After what happened tonight... ...Biden can certainly live with the "heat" of Trump Whining... TRUMP (A Pathetic Mindless Racist (fan of White supremacy, because he failed to explicitly denounce it))... Biden (or anybody else) could not care less what Trump thinks... And, if Trump doesn't agree to allow his mic to be cut, then Trump is weaseling out. Period.
Progressives on the fence should have realized Joe was giving them the middle finger when he selected Harris as his running mate. IMHO, Trump acted about like he always acts which probably did not hurt him. Biden seemed like a jerk proclaiming he was the democratic party and he decided its policies and then refusing to answer questions about the democratic chatter regarding packing the court, ending the filibuster, or naming a name he would nominate after already acknowledging that Trump's choice might be an okay person. I don't think hurt himself, but I don't think he helped himself get any traction to close the deal either.
Its a calculation his campaign team is going to have to weigh, but there must be counter strategies discussed and re-assurances from the moderators to ensure this does not happen again, or I think Biden is right not to attend. There was zero purpose to what went on there. He had no time to discuss his policy positions and make his case and that is what voters deserved.
My impression of the debate: Americans should be absolutely EMBARRASSED by these two, and absolutely anyone voting for either one of them should be ashamed.
Biden had a very strong start but Trump was able to make it very competitive in the second half of the debate. I didn't appreciate how rude Trump was and how much he talked over Biden or talked during Biden's turn. Both mostly argued about their main partisan talking points that we have heard a lot about already, sometimes being evasive to inconvenient questions. It seems like they both were denying stuff was true in half this debate. I'm very interested to see what fact checkers come out with. Trump supports will say he won, Biden supporters will say he won. I thought Biden won but I lean Biden, but not exactly enthusiastic about him. Really though Chris Wallace won and he didn't even do that good of a job. He even debated Trump sometimes and often let the debate descend into chaos. This debate has made me less likely to vote and just makes me sad. I hope we can be a country where people of different beliefs can respect each other again.
Yeah Trump had a lot of zingers but he didn't really have any substance or ideas. If you want singers go see a f****** stand-up comedian, I want a president who actually knows what the f*** he's talking about
Alternative facts. There were a lot of them tossed out last night. Fact checkers will be doing it in installments because nobody wants to read 20 pages in one sitting.
I was wincing because I grew to hate the sound of Trump's voice talking over Biden AND Wallace. I did a lot of wincing. From now on, put their mikes on a toggle switch and only one working at a time. Maybe then we could get some answers.
If Trump lost, America gained. I just hope these debates will show what total reprobates the Republican leadership had to be to foist this total bronze turd on us in the first place. If we can remove Trump and his followers from positions of political influence in the USA forever then this long national nightmare may have served a worthy purpose, at least a little .
Progressives on the fence between Biden and Trump? Do you honestly think that any Progressive will vote for Trump? It's like saying you didn't like Roosevelt over Alf Landon, and then voting for Joseph Stalin instead.
Statler and Waldorf, good job. Trump was abusive, as always. Biden wasn't perfect, but equating them is inaccurate.
This is why we can't have nice things... To me, the question is whether it will move the polls. The bottom line has been that Trump has split males, but females hate him. That's not going to change. But will swing voters swing? Will the oddballs that voted for Obama, then Trump, go for Biden. When I say that, the Dems want to see a solid win for Biden. To get Republicans in Congress to back away from Trump's crazy, we need a solid win.
Trump did not directly insult Biden. Biden told him to "shut up" called him a clown and several other insults. Biden was the clear abuser, but I wont hold my breath waiting on you to admit that.
I hope you're right, Mr. Jackson. But-- as I earlier asked Curious Always, on the DEBATES Are COMING! thread-- If Trump just threw away the election, removed any chance that he could be elected, why aren't all the Democratic commentators giddy, rather than seemingly irritated, annoyed, exasperated & so forth? I suspect the respected commentators (all of whom are on the left, center left, & maybe the left-center) are following the ruts left 4 years ago, when they couldn't believe enough people would take Trump seriously for him to be a major electoral threat. I am not a Trump supporter (was for Bernie Sanders) but I am capable of looking at something through eyes unbiased by my personal understandings. Seen that way, one has to admit, even if you despise his tactics, Trump was very sharp, & well-prepared for what was clearly his plan, which he executed w/ amazing effectiveness, especially considering how many of the aforementioned commentators would have us believe that Trump is sinking into senility. Trump took control of the debate. Sure it was a mess, but that was obviously preferred by Trump, & I think better serves his interests, than following the expected script would have been. Maybe his calculus was off. But I have a hard time taking the word of people who were absolutely wrong last time &, in the most pathetic defense I've ever heard for political defeat, maintained afterwards that Hillary, "got more votes!" Yeah, too bad that's not the metric we use. Was Clinton unfamiliar w/ the method of determining the winner? Saying, she got more votes is the equivalent of a chess player, after an opponent defeats him by taking his king, saying, "but I've got more of your pieces! Their greater total point value should count for something." Well it doesn't. And neither does all the approbation of, "every decent American," if it doesn't add up to an electoral majority. Things are looking pretty good at present. Let's hope all the premature declarations of D.J. Trump's demise don't cause team Biden to forget how to add.
Wouldn't this depend on how you define abuse. I think I'd be more likely to accept someone whom I was rudely interrupting and talking over call me a clown than have someone yelling in my ear and constantly interrupting and talking over me literally to poison and stop communication. I just think it's unbelievable how the Right ( who traditionally are sensitive about manners and behaviour) has become desensitised to this clown President and his uncivilised antics. It's the most unbelievable hypocrisy I've observed in the entire US politics past 5 years. Complete collective mind loss
https://streamable.com/wb4se1 Whenceforth President Donald J. Trump intimated that he has the conspirators of the failed coup on tape, "Sleepy" Joe Biden froze up like a crack pipe left in the sun. Despite the ongoing recalcitrance many of you have exhibited through your ongoing refusal to construe the deeper meaning behind incidents such as these, those tapes will be coming out. And a lot of people are going to be very angry when they find out that Biden was foisted upon them so that he might safeguard himself.
I just can't get over it! At least a third of the 'debate' was Biden uncomfortably wincing with that pig of an individual raucously and uncouthly bellowing and interrupting him through his right ear and preventing him from talking. It was so *******n uncomfortable to watch. And any reaction against that sort of uncivilised and raucous foulness is abuse ! It's the most hilarious thing I've ever read!!
