( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ~ That is actually a very good point. They have bastardized and given the word a bad name .
You mean the same way that extremist rightwingers have bastardized and given the term conservative a bad name?
I have to disagree if you are talking about Anton Szandor LaVey's Church of Satan. LaVey said that philosophically his Church was "Christian egoism" and religiously supported the idea that Satan had been given "bad press" and was in fact, the way God should be worshipped. He also said, however, that there was no God, and that his Church was a "con job" done to alleviate people's guilt over having sex. In this respect, it very much resembled Ivan Stang's Church of the SubGenius, an "inherently bogus" religion but without the humor
I don't particular care what you think of the Church. Its obvious guff. But "do what though wilt shall be the whole of the law" gives the libertine game away somewhat... Good ole seaside loving Crowley...
You can interpret it as you see fit. I'm simply reporting my own experience of rarely encountering liberal Progressives - at least not this century. They existed last century .. but then their liberalism was more important to them than shrill ideological 'conservatism'.
Best not to use it at all, when discussing the modern Left. The Right are more liberal these days. The Left are like elderly church ladies who tsk tsk everything.
