I'm "OK with", even delighted, when the Senate adheres to the Constitution, including the express prohibition against religious tests for office. You apparently don't care about adhering to the Constitution.

The Biden rule from the early 90s comes to mind

I understand your opposition to my last point but I think it's important to weigh the GOP's past precedence on when it is and isn't appropriate to put forth a nomination. They created a situation in which their word should be questioned. That is the point I am making.

but it was the Dems, Chuck in 2007, and Biden in 1992 that point further the Biden Rule, that was used in 2016....then they flipped and now flipped again when the GOP agreed with them....so when the GOP agrees their word should be questioned?

It's funny how scripted these hearings have become. Each dem senator has a lame attempt at a heart-wrenching story with a glossy photo of some supposed 'real American' that ACB is supposedly going to bankrupt / kill.

Past arguments are irrelevant once a new precedence is set. If the GOP took a past argument and made it a precedence then they are bound to the precedence they set. By flipping when the precedence no longer meets their need calls into question whether they can be trusted going forward.

I would hope you wouldn't tolerate someone doing this to you without questioning whether you would trust them going forward.

Well the dems argued against that...and the GOP changed the rules for them....why can't you all just be happy with being given what you all flip flopped your argument for.....it seems to bend depending on the circumstances

Moreover things were different in 92, 2007 and 2016 compared to today......the difference being the same party has the Senate and the Oval....two things are needed to get a Judge selected....a nomination. then consent by the Senate.

Outlining the different variables of when something should be implemented is discussed at the time a new precedence is being established. To go back and add those variables after the fact is suspect at best.

I would rather they just say we denied the hearings for Merrick Garland because we could. Now we're pushing through our nomination because we can. Hiding behind made up reasons to justify why something is being done shows that even they know they are not acting in good faith and honorably.

They will get their nominee on the bench but I think there will be a cost which in turn will not be good for the country.

Judicial decisions should not be based upon a balance of power but upon our laws and constitution. That is why we should have a conservative and not an activist court.

No she doesn't. Just because the husband is considered the head within the home doesn't mean she is his puppet in all aspects of life. That's just nonsense. You do know the Catholic church teaches that doctrine, to which Biden and Pelosi belong. I'm sure you don't accuse them of that because they are leftists.

True, and should be based on what "We the People" want which is the preamble to the Constitution.

If they should be based on laws and the constitution, then why are you advocating for a conservative ?

Touche' but his was an argument for something that didn't happen at the time the argument was posed. I see we have reached the end of our discussion but I appreciate you engaging me respectfully. Cheers!

I agree and Republicans scripted lines of pearl clutching about supposed attacks on her religion and the "29 times" bs...

Both sides are doing a dog and pony show

Senator Crapo has a fitting name btw
