A Shocker Lexington Herald-Leader endoses Amy McGrath over Rich Mitch.

One of Kentucky's largest newspapers has surprised everyone by endorsing Democrat Amy McGrath the candidate trying to unseat Rich Mitch McConnell for the senate seat he has held for 36 years. Their reasoning being that Rich Mitch represents the REPUBLICAN PARTY not the people of Kentucky, he does nothing to improve the lives of average Kentucky residents.

 

Title should say ENDORSES not endoses. Terrible typist.

 

He doesn't even represent the Republican Party. He represents Republican donors.

This is the one seat that would most benefit this country. Unfortunately it's a longshot.

 

A distinction without a difference

I unfortunately watched a tape of the McGrath-McConnell debate. Aside from his persistent eerie chuckle Mitch came off similar to Joni Ernst (Iowa)— way too distant to their constituents.

 

ROFL! Obviously you are NOT from Kentucky. Hardly a shocker -- business as usual. Who characterized this as a "surprise to everyone"? Or is that just your uneducated opinion? The Lexington Herald Leader and the Louisville Courier Journal generally endorse the Democrat.....in the previous race where McConnell ran against Alison Lundergan Grimes, both papers endorsed Grimes. He trounced her. If you seriously think McGrath has a chance, you'll be soundly disappointed.

Given that I've lived in KY my entire life and followed politics extensively, you'll be very disappointed. I'm still wondering why you called this "a shocker" in your thread title. If you actually knew anything about my state, you would understand how blatantly misleading that was.

 

I confess I know little to nothing about Kentucky other than my persona dislike for both Rich Mitch and Rand Paul. And the University usually has a very good basketball team.

 

Mitch needs to go imo but I'm not going to lie I'm somewhat baffled why the Democrat party would run McGrath. She sounds smart and says things I agree with but at the end of the day politics is a lotta bit pr and a little bit policy. Shes got a look that could dissuade traditional value Kentuckians tbh (not trying to be rude just stating my belief)

 

Go Cats! Thank you for your confession. Look, I completely understand that many people detest Mitch McConnell -- mostly because he is quite effective as Majority Leader and also was as Minority Leader. I felt the same way about Harry Reid and I detest Chuck Schumer. I have rarely voted for a Democrat -- but I did when Wendell Ford was Minority Leader. Under our current system where there are no term limits, when someone representing your state makes it that high up in either the Senate or the House, you keep them there. You don't trade them in for junior representation with no clout.

 

That's why we have so many in D.C. who are still running well beyond their expiration date. We have LOWER AGE LIMITS to seek office, but no upper limits, which we desperately need.

Just had to comment....with 94% of the vote in, McConnell 58.2% vs McGrath 37.8. Despite the fact that she had $50 million more (mostly out of state donations), he trounced her, as expected.

 

Rich Mitch was declared the winner very early. The polls were dead wrong again.

 

Lindsey Graham also held onto his seat.

 

I never saw any polls projecting her the winner, or even a close race, but I don't have a lot of trust in polls to begin with. I always wonder who they poll and how they pick them.......never been contacted and have voted in every election even when the only race was for county Dog Warden. I just know Kentuckians aren't like so many enjoy portraying us.....we DO vote our own interests.

 

Of course he did. Not shocked at that either, even though it was projected to be closer than McConnell's race.
