Yep it does, or they would have signed this letter. Or are you saying this letter means nothing now?

Let's try your "logic" on for a bit. Here's a petition to support Donald Trump. Only ~1,600 people have signed it. Therefore, only ~1,600 people support Donald Trump and everyone else doesn't support him. See how stupid that argument is? Hint: a petition isn't as survey.

Do you not see the irony?

In 2016 these 700 economists trashed Trump on their area of expertise - the economy, just to end up with egg all over their faces, totally wrong, humiliated and exposed as ignorant frauds.

They've learned their lesson and now these same economists are "urgently warning" on issues totally outside of their area of expertise - "democracy", pandemic and "misinformation"...

Can anyone possibly believe the arrogance and stupidity of these 700 uber leftist failed idiots, aka self proclaimed economic geniuses?

I was thinking the same thing when I read his link, what does economics have to do with science, assault on democracy and the like? They are acting like children

Yep, their 2016 unanimous predictions of world-wide depression starting the moment Trump is elected and continuing for generations (i.e. Nobel prize winner Krugman) demonstrated that these clowns have little precious to do with Economics either :D

Absolutely, and close to a polar opposite of your perception.

    No, it's not.

But I am certain you can prove me wrong by backing up your assertions with *facts*.

So show me those quotes from 2016...

You don't know what Stiglitz said, but you should be aware that Stiglitz was saying it before Trump became a candidate. The book I usually refer to was published in 2012...

    Zzzzz

From your own link that you now want to ignore..

The open letter follows a similar effort in 2016 that failed to derail Trump's successful bid for the White House. At the time, at least 790 economists urged Americans not to elect Trump, citing a "deep ignorance of economics and an inability to listen to credible experts."

You made up statements you can't back up.

You said instant depression, and that's not what they said. What they did say was accurate.

It's customary to provide a link when you quote.

Where did I say instant depression?

I am quoting your own link, did you even read it in your OP?

Claiming to know what he understands requires mind reading abilities. Thanks for the quote. I strongly disagree with Trump on that. While I oppose tariffs, I make an exception when it comes to China.

Based on his words, he doesn't understand. Based on his words, he thinks that trade deficits represent lost wealth (they objectively don't) and that exporters are the ones paying tariffs (they objectively aren't). The things that he's said about trade deficits and tariffs simply aren't true. If you choose to believe is he is only pretending to not understand, and that instead he's just lying about it all, then that's up to you.

    Just keeping things light.

Man walking along a road in the countryside comes across a shepherd and a huge flock of sheep. Tells the shepherd, "I will bet you $100 against one of your sheep that I can tell you the exact number in this flock." The shepherd thinks it over; it's a big flock so he takes the bet. "973," says the man. The shepherd is astonished, because that is exactly right. Says "OK, I'm a man of my word, take an animal." Man picks one up and begins to walk away.

"Wait," cries the shepherd, "Let me have a chance to get even. Double or nothing that I can guess your exact occupation." Man says sure. "You are an economist for a government think tank," says the shepherd. "Amazing!" responds the man, "You are exactly right! But tell me, how did you deduce that?"

"Well," says the shepherd, "put down my dog and I will tell you."

700? Is that all? Are you saying that 19,300 members of the American Economic Association think Trump is an economic genius? Krugman was gifted with a Nobel Prize as was Obama before he Assassinated al Awlaki and his children. There is no prestige in any flavor of Nobel members of the leftist club.

I don't believe any politician and assume his statement was meant to manipulate. Since we are here in the opinion section, I have to say that America's addiction to cheap crap from China will eventually reach a tipping point. While we buy crap that will be in a landfill in just a few years, they are buying real estate. Not the first time land was traded for shiny beads.

While it gets called a Nobel, actually, it's not. Reporters call it that because it's easy.

Pretty sure none of the others think Trumps a genius.

So your take is that he's just pretending to be economically ignorant . . . and acting accordingly for some reason. On the opinion side, the Chinese fears are largely unfounded. Meanwhile, he's raised far more tariffs than just those against China.
