Because a national response is how you deal with a pandemic

The problem NY had is there a international hub for travel.. While the CHINERS and the WHO suppressed information from Taiwan in December 2019 NY was infected at a much greater degree..

It's insane to blame anyone in govt for the deaths due to COVID. Of course NY and NJ had such high numbers early on...that area has millions of people packed in to such a relatively small area. Manhattan alone had about 3.1 million people during the workday. Is it really any wonder how COVID could have swept rapidly through such a heavily congested area of people? There are people packed into high rise buildings, both residential and commercial. People packed together on subways. People packed together on the streets walking to and from work. There is a reason areas that are more rural and spread out have less cases than areas that are more congested...rural areas on avg have far less contact than congested areas. Once these areas realized what needed to be done they curbed the upward trend. Now other areas seem to be catching up. Which is insane because the increase in deaths in these areas has occurred well after learning more about the disease and what we should and should not do to prevent further spread.

Texas and Florida combined total MORE deaths than NY. Mostly in the last few months (NY has had a FRACTION of that number during that time)

But the virus doesn't care about politics.

It LOVES your lax attitude though

both red and blue States followed the Trump shutdown and reopen guidelines, but you could blame them for listening to Trump I guess

1.8 million to go if we had done absolutely nothing... thankfully we did not do that - most wore masks and social distanced even as Trump was attacking those that did so as weak

It's very rare to meet a Democrat that is willing to accept responsibility for their own mistakes.

the default response is typically to blame others, repeatedly, then keep blaming others, and then Hammer Down the point that it's somebody else's fault.

if that fails, try to blame others.

because Trump did not help when asked... they said the federal supplies were theirs, not the States

just like any other national disaster, the fed is supposed to help the States when they ask for help

also Trump made the wear a mask and social distancing message harder on the States by his actions

it's like one parent telling a child the right thing to do and the other telling them the wrong thing to do... mixed messages

    did you?

"The Trump Administration’s Deregulation of Nursing Homes Leaves Seniors and Disabled at Higher Risk for COVID-19"

    https://www.americanprogress.org/is...leaves-seniors-disabled-higher-risk-covid-19/

"Why are nursing homes being hit so hard by the outbreak? One reason is that they are a target of the Trump administration’s aggressive deregulation agenda."

"In response, the nursing home lobby again advocated for less oversight, and in July 2019, the Trump administration proposed new rules relaxing the requirements tied to infection control. It suggested that consultants could be used, instead of requiring infection specialists to be employed at the site, at minimum, on a part-time basis. This meant that there was no longer a requirement for a full-time, hands-on expert in infection contamination on-site."

the reality is, Nursing Homes should have separated infected people, they failed to do this, hospitals could not give up a bed for everyone that showed no symptoms and tested positive, not enough beds

you do know places like Texas had way more nursing home deaths then NY right?

    https://data.cms.gov/stories/s/COVID-19-Nursing-Home-Data/bkwz-xpvg/

and New York was the first hit, so the other States should have learned from them

And it was mostly Governors who "did something" or in the case of Florida and Georgia in particular...did nothing

Good point. Trump has no voice there. Those crying "Trump has blood on his hands" would have a point if Republicans had a significantly higher rate of infection.
