Sigh . . . it works as long as others have the income to take up the endless slack. But eventually socialists run out of other peoples' money.

Actually that is a good way to look at it. The SOBs sanctioned violent rioting for nearly six months. ANTIFA and BLM would have gotten sponsors had the rioters not looted those potential sponsors first.

Ah! An excellent idea! Let's have all the wanna-be hard drug users in the entire United States migrate to PORTUGAL! Thank you for this outside-the-box suggestion!

    No! No!

I oppose guns. I oppose drugs.

Those who support this stuff are very wrong and complicit in many suicides.

This is an Evil which has bipartisan support.

In USA, about 72,000 people per year are dying from overdose.

Yes, because the existing laws are working so well.

Your view of this is simple and doesn't match reality. Drugs laws have killed millions of people and turned cities into war zones. They have made criminals out of children. They ruin lives thousands of times every single day

I'm not sure that's an entirely fair assessment because a lot of this revenue has come from out of state.
It's a similar situation to the issue of gambling in Las Vegas.

(Part of this is the logical fallacy of composition, if you're not familiar with it. The benefit that seems to be big for one state would turn out to be much smaller if you implemented it on a larger national level)

In Russia 1570-1700, Tobacco was banned. It was considered Devil's substance.

You'll have to buy them the ticket, and help them get ready, help getting passports, for example.

You will also have millions of 'new' addicts looking to get a free ride to Europe. Portugal is one of the few countries in Europe I haven't been to, so I'm stoked.

I'm sure they'd prefer not to go to jail or rehab but the point isn't to make them happy (short term at least), the point is to reduce drug abuse.

    It's pretty racist in Portugal.

It sounds like a bad idea, but it could stop the revolving door some users find themselves in. Each arrest leads to less opportunity to climb out. ( a job is tough, renting an apt etc...) Put funds into rehabilitation. many homeless are substance abusers so it might be a win-win.

The war on drugs actually helps cartels. Cartels use that as an excuse to jack up the prices. Making drugs easier and cheaper to get should drive the cartels out of business if they aren't able to make a real profit. Just my conjecture though.

The money that will be saved can be used to set up safe places where addicts can go to get their fix and hangout, and if they want to get off drugs those safe places can provide that service as well.

Would you care to drive through downtown Portland or the Calcutta like hell hole hobo camps before making a judgement? It looks like Portland lost a war. Oregon used to be the most manly state in the Union when I was a child. It was a land populated by hearty pioneers, loggers, fishermen, ranchers, farmers, and now it is populated by the least manly bunch of sissies in the entire continent. Portland won nothing.

As for the hard drugs, come to Portland for the heroin, stay for the kiddie porn. Sodom, Gemorrah, and Portland. God is going to put the nozzzle on Portland and the drain in San Fransisco the next time he decides to flood the earth.
