Most of the key grips, lighting and sound engineers, make-up artists and line producers I know aren't part of any elite class. They've worked hard to get where they are. Many are freelance employees and don't get paid if they don't work.

They're just trying to make rent and put food on the table like everyone else.

Like many have said, I'm really grateful for the work they're doing. Especially right now.

The employees and servants of the elite class of course get to stay working as well.

Good that people have work and good that we've got some entertainment to stop us going insane.

But why are they more important than a theatre or a pub?

They're not necessarily more important. I'd love to go a pub but you're talking about random untested people gathering in that instance. As another poster pointed out, the testing regimen for crews is very strict. It's not perfect but it's an attempt to mitigate risk just like having dining tables spaced apart in a pub/restaurant or working stations in nail salons or hairdressers.

I really don't think this is political. It's just people doing their best to find a way forward in completely uncharted territory.

I sincerely wish everything could just open up tomorrow and things could go back to normal but everytime that's tried, things get exponentially worse.

NBA, MLB, NFL, NHL, WWF or whatever other 'man' sport you like to masturbate to.

Exactly. I can't think of too many industries. Cleaning would be one, but I imagine that it is still going on.

Well, being a "big corporation" certainly explains why it is exempt, but it doesn't explain why it is essential.

What do you mean? Are you asking if porn production is banned?

Yes, a large swath of the population are not allowed to leave their house to go to work. So why is it fair that those in the entertainment industry can go to work?

Are you saying that other industries are unable to operate with the same degree of contact?

Sorry, just exactly how is it essential that people watch new content?

I have not seen a clear detail of why they were exempted or to what extents, but my logical conclusion is so the overnight skeleton crews to keep radio broadcasting, infomercials running, etc, or so people can go in to get their hair and makeup done for filming or set up craft services were deemed a low risk with a naturally limited number of people.

My guess is very few considering very few businesses are open during those hours. It seems more geared towards people gathering since it says non-essential “activities”
