The Department of Justice (DOJ) is investigating a potentially criminal scheme involving paying a bribe to people either in or affiliated with the White House in exchange for an unknown person receiving a presidential pardon, according to court documents that were unsealed Tuesday.

The court records, which were unsealed by the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, say the DOJ investigation involves two people, whose names are redacted, who were improperly acting as lobbyists to secure the pardon for a person whose name is also redacted. The plot involved the person offering “a substantial political contribution in exchange for a presidential pardon or reprieve of sentence.”

Breaking story.... I haven't read the court documents yet, although they are in the link...

Sure.... why not... Any way Trump can raise money for the future, he's all in...

Although this is seriously Advanced Graft... Only taught in the 2nd year at Trump University.

Is anybody surprised here? Even if Trump didn't know about selling pardons, certainly somebody thought he, or somebody in his crappy administration, would be amenable to the concept....

Maybe it was when he commuted the sentence of Rod Blagojevich. That would explain a lot. I could never understand this case because no one on either side of the political spectrum wanted this guy released. He was a democrat, that was the embodiment of being a swamp monster. I could never understand why Trump released him.

Good point... the document says "presidential pardon or reprieve of sentence", so Blago fits in this bucket. I'll remember this post if you turn out to be right (No, I won't, but feel free to remind me)

I am not sure I expressed it but I was suspicious when the Blagojevich story was originally release. I said back then it made no sense and he was the ultimate example of a swamp monster.

    Slowdown Comanchero

"The heavily redacted documents revealed Tuesday do not name the individuals involved or President Donald Trump. They also do not indicate if any White House officials had knowledge of the scheme....

..."This political strategy to obtain a presidential pardon was 'parallel' to and distinct from" one individual's role as an attorney advocate for" another individual, the ruling said, redacting both names."

Could be a scheme to defraud a pardon seeker into believing they could be gotten one. And it doesn't say a pardon was issued. If someone broke the law then off with their heads.

Part of Trump’s pathos is in letting the bad guy win, once in a while. I think he believes the world owes him similar treatment.

The redacted document also doesn't indicate White House officials DIDN'T have knowledge of the scheme.

I think every current White House official is going to have to prove they didn't before this goes away.

They can go one at a time or in small groups to speed things up...

    Could be Rudy.
He is not part of the gov't and may well have been searched for his other deeds.

Face it people, this is still Barr's Department of Justice "investigating" these multiple obvious criminal schemes. Don't get your hopes up.

If these investigations find anything substantial, few people would be surprised knowing Trump and his behavior !!!!

    Fake news.

Just throwing shade for the sake of it.

President Trump outperformed obama so badly even now dems are grasping at straws, despite winning the presidency with the help of the propaganda machine.

So now we know why Trump may decide to pardon himself.

He could be charged with bribery
