https://www.quora.com/Which-is-better-Queen-or-Led-Zeppelin https://www.unilad.co.uk/featured/queen-are-the-most-important-band-in-musical-history/ The 2 greatest rock bands of alltime top to bottom. Queen 20 years and 15 studio albums. Zeppelin 12 years and 9 studio albums. Both bands remained with the same personnel in those time periods unlike many other bands and both experienced outrageous peak popularity and consistent popularity on a world wide level until today. My 16 year old son has t-shirts from both bands and it is not unusual to see high school kids with shirts from these bands. I guess it is possible for somebody to love one band and not the other but most people who are fans of one tend to also like the other. I do not want this about some other bands you might think are better we can have a different thread for that. I want to talk about these 2 and what you think of them.
Led Zeppelin isn't that much of my generation (I'm in my early 30's). I have the feeling that Queen remain more a reference among young generations than Led Zeppelin.
I was in High School when Zeppelin came out. They came off as vulgar and noisy to me. When Queen came out later, I was out of School and on my way. Didn't pay much mind to music. By the time I began to pay attention again, southern rock and R/B filled my needs. Looking back, Queen and Zeppelin are both great rock bands. Which is best depends on my mood. IMO I'd give the nod to Zeppelin. But man is Queen awesome or what?
Which is best between the two? Hmmm... depends on which of my personalities is in control on a given day as to what music is resonating and which memories are reverberating in my mind. But, for the record, I saw Led Zeppelin live four times One summer and unfortunately, never saw Queen live.
Queens music and appeal has probably aged better and broader, but back in the day Zeppelin was the wholly grail if you were into Rock and Roll.
I pick Queen but "Stairway to Heaven" will always remain one of the greatest songs of all time. I will never forget when Ann Wilson sang it at the Kennedy Center honoring Zepplin. Still sends shivers.
A big swath of Queen's song are in the realm of classics. The appeal for many of their songs will continue for generations. Led Zeplin's one song, stairway to heaven, will have that appeal.
I'm curious if folks in your age group even care about ranking musical groups. EDM is wildly popular and the DJs that spin it are in some cases as popular and successful as many traditional bands of the past have been. Is rock even your preferred genre? What band, if any, is your favorite? I have a sweet album by Telepopmusik, a couple of guys from France whose tunes got picked up for a Mitsubishi commercial and a weird club scene episode on Nip/Tuck over a decade ago.
Agreed. Queen is pop music really. My toss up would be between Pink Floyd or the Rolling Stones. Pink Floyd would win of course.
It's pretty much an impossible call for me between the Stones, the Beatles, Zep and the Floyd. Like, supposing the challenge was that I could take all of the music from one and only one of these to live with for a year on a desert island, well, heck, I would maybe have to go with Bob Marley instead! Queen is perfectly respectable but to see them compared to their superiors just in loose chronological order alone, much less to Led Zeppelin is just silly. Elvis Presley Chuck Berry The Beatles The Stones The Doors Jimi Hendrix Eric Clapton The Who Pink Floyd Led Zeppelin Neil Young Black Sabbath CCR CSN Queen comes in around this time, but they aren't really quite in the same genre, Pop Rock for sure. Similar more to Hall and Oates, but not as good. Meh, kids whose peers have made Drake the number one streaming Jam on Spotify maybe should steer clear of assessing Rock and Roll or Rock.
I agree totally with these posts. Back in the day , you would have been laughed out of School if you dare mentioned Queen in the same breath as zeppelin. Queen was a good pop/rock band, zeppelin were Gods.
I'm more about classical music/ambiant/religious music (either buddhist religious music or christian catholic/orthodox music). I also listen brutal death metal. I can listen Hildegard Von Bingen, the christian mystic from middle age, and then listen some cannibal corpse music. I really love Vivaldi and what Philippe Jaroussky music, but I'm quite alone in that case ! I think what changed our link to music is also the internet that enabled more niche music to appear. Before you were limited by the radio, now you have a huge musical library, that is almost unlimited. But as I'm in my very early 30's, I'm starting to be more and more distant of what may listen people in their teenagehood.
Growing up, the classic rock station in my area always did the countdown of best songs - usually top 500. Every year, Hey Jude, Stairway to Heaven and Bohemian Rhapsody took the top spots. I wondered if any new rock would ever knock them out of the top spots, but so far, it hasn't happened. People cling to classic rock and seem to refuse to recognize the talent that has come after. Don't get me wrong, I'm a classic rock fan, but I have widened my listening over the years and think we've been graced with a lot of talent beyond the classics. As to your question OP, I have to go with Led Zep between the two. If I have to choose. And among my many reasons is the fact that they gave us school kids the ability to slow dance longer than any other band, lol.
Zeppelin is not really very danceable, slow or fast. What in the world were the Zeppelin tunes you slow danced to? The top three from this list are probably pretty good. Love the Rain Song for a slow dance, I wish I had tried using it more when I used to mobile DJ. https://ultimateclassicrock.com/led-zeppelin-love-songs/ Thank You The Rain Song All of My Love Please don't tell me you were slow dancing to Stairway!!!
Ah, as the last song then, that's a bit different, thanks.... What about Hotel California? Did they play that like second to last sometimes?
In Rock and Roll Historical Terms, Zeppelin Wins The Contest Against Queen. It is No Contest. Zeppelin is a Legit Top 5 Band of All-Time. Queen is awesome, and (obviously) Freddy is Iconic and Freddy is (obviously) a Top 5 Frontman of All-Time. But, in terms of "Greatest Bands", Queen isn't even in the same conversation with Zeppelin.
Both bands put out some amazing music, but favorite? Floyd. Hands down. We've seen both Queen's and Floyd's tribute bands live, and they are incredible. Brit Floyd was one; I don't recall the Queen band's name. My music is all over the place - rock, pop, country, chill, trans, classical, R&B. There's no genre at all where I can say I dislike 100% of it.
One of my favorite bands of alltime is Genesis. From a legacy perspective you could call them the best band ever given what the individual members have contributed and I'm a huge Peter Gabriel fan. One of my favorite youtube concerts is Genesis live at Wembley 1987. They were at their peak and the peak of their popularity. I watched half of that great show while doing some investment research and then switched to Queen live at Wembley 1986. As great as Genesis was Queen was of a different order. They are electric! Freddie was electric. Perhaps it is the hard rock sound that appeals to me because Genesis is not that.
Sure, from the guy that posted the OP suggesting Queen is even comparable to the Mighty Zeppelin. Bowie beats Queen by himself. And your OP dismisses the Beatles, the Stones, and the Floyd. Good For You...
