This isn't the right thing. How will the incoming administration deal with Saudi Arabia on light of this? It turns out she was forced to divorce her husband who is a stand up comedian described as the 'Seinfeld of Saudi Arabia':

Likely issue a strongly worded press release or other diddly-nothing, then back to cocktails and business as usual. Remember, normalcy's comin' back to town in 23 short days!

Since when has Saudi Arabia not been like this ? God forbid Heir Putin did such a thing .... but Brother El Saud - we can look the other way.

Speaking of Assange - and political prisoners .. I thought there was something in the Rule of Law about the right to speedy Trial...

Guess we should take the log out of our own eye before picking the speck out of Brother El Saud's eye.

Word on the street is that this woman will be out in Early 2021 - time served or some such thing .. slap on the wrist by El Saud Standards .. which will appease the West - but on the books - at least for internal messaging purpose a nod to the Islamists - not quite ready to leave the old ways just yet.

In America, thousands of people are fired and blacklisted for offending Progressives. USA and Canada are no better then Saudi Arabia.

Students and Professors live in fear of offending someone.

Conservative students must keep quiet for the fear of repercussions.

What I find sad is Sophia has been granted full citizenship by Saudi Arabia and arguably, has a greater degree of rights than any Saudi woman.

Tiz bizarre to suggest that in US/Can is no better than in the land of El Saud - this is simply not true- Things are way better in the West.

That said - we do have some examples - some areas - where we are little different than El Saud - and for this we should be ashamed .. such as the case of Assange.

Obviously taking the change of President into account. Was she not, like others subject to the death penalty?

Sadly I think it is becoming much stronger in the West, though much more towards the left than against the right. People of the far right did believe they had their right to speak held back when we believed in such things as equal rights. I believe we are on a slippery slope and yes Assange is a very clear sign of it, though you are right, no where near KSA apart from that.....yet.

It is as dangerous for an American student/faculty to criticize Progressives as it is for a Saudi citizen to criticize Saudi King.

You are suggesting that free speech in 'dangerous' is Universities the US. Please provide sources where students have been in danger. You are also suggesting that American Students are so crass that they criticise 'progressives' rather than discuss topics. Please provide sources for such claims. ...and as you have gone so far as to equate this with critizism of a Saudi King, lets see the beheading.

Well - and good thing too. Not much solace can be had in the statement " Well - we are not as bad as Stalin's Russia or El Saud"

Do we have to be as bad as the aforementioned to realize that we are in totalitarianism .. like the frog in slowly heated water ? Apparently so.

The canaries in the coal mine of totalitarianism are screeching at the top of their lungs right now -- but - alas - few seem to notice or care.

Such is the lesson of History. Just opened a new thread on this in the political opinion section .. contrasting Assange and the Saudi woman..

The Poll question is "should Biden free Assange" I have Yes - No and "Other - I had no idea that the right to a speedy trial was part of the rule of law"

It seems to be common knowledge that thousands of people have been blacklisted/fired/expelled for disagreeing with Progressive ideology.

No that is not an acceptable answer. People on this forum say all sorts of things. You need to provide some sources. Now it is true that students who support Palestine have their names taken and things put on a site to try and stop the possibility of them having a decent career and to terrify others of supporting Palestinians but these would be left wing students who care about justice and human rights.

This would be a good chance for the Biden Administration to show the murderous Crown Prince they have in charge of that kind of thing that Kushner is gone and he no longer has carte blanche to kill people.

OTOH he is an unpredictable sort, he might possibly just kill the woman in spite and what could we do then? Really stop buying his ****** oil, like all the conservatives have been saying fracking has enabled us to do for the last 4 years?

People write all sorts of things on this board 'in general terms'. It is best to check whether they are true. ;)

Well someone might provide some evidence to back it up. There was complaints from the right which they were calling 'cancel culture' but really they were the people stoping those with alternative views themselves. I left a link which is a left wing site criticising them. I cannot imagine, at the moment, any Academic in the US would actually be in physical danger for their views. At worst they could lose their job - that is a big thing, but not really dangerous in the way it would be for a Saud to have a go against the King. ;)

This thread is about - Saudi women’s rights activist al-Hathloul given prison sentence
    Not about Palestinian moanings.

Don't forget that V. Putin kept the women of ***** Riot in prison for only a fairly short time for their "crimes".
