After a 4 year long battle to finally get the U.K. out of the European Union, current Prime Minister Boris Johnsons father Stanley is seeking French citizenship so that he can remain in the European Union. A touch of irony here??
No irony whatsoever. The father explained that he was the son and grandchild of France and felt that was his heritage. One's citizenship is not that huge a deal to Europeans as it is Americans. It is more comparable to changing one's citizenship status when they move from one state to another.
Maybe not ironic to you, but it is to me, after the struggle the U.K. has had to extricate itself from the E.U.
I think it's very sad to simplify the european identity to the EU, which is just the tool of the powerfull against the people.
