More than 200 employees of Google have formed the Alphabet Workers Union(ALPHABET being the parent company). This becomes the first union established at a major U.S. technology company for technology workers. It has launched today with support from the Communications Workers of America.

Could this be a sign that unions are finally staging a comeback after about 40 years of declines.

Good for them. I have no problem with unions based on private companies. Its when it comes to the public government sector that it should not be done.

This doesn't mean diddly. This is a union of 200 workers. Google has over a quarter million. Literally less than one out of a thousand google workers is in this powerless union.

Unions arent a good fit for Google. Innovation, work ethic and the passion to excell in creativity and results is on the downside now.

Google also has existing unions representing some of their workers, this is the first union for technical employees.

After over 40 years of declining union membership maybe we will finally see a reversal where rank and file employees begin to see real wage increases as CEO's and Executive staffs see their share of the pie shrink a bit.

Tech employees should be very careful about these demands. As a corporate IT employee myself, I know if we start demanding too much they will start off loading to an offshore tech group who will work for pennies on the dime. Unless you are absolutely irreplaceable, being paid too much can often make you a target during budget cuts.

I'm not saying I like it that way, it's just the reality of the job. IT is moving towards the cloud every single day. Anybody, anywhere can support systems in the cloud. It's not like a factory job where they would have to move a whole entire plant to outsource your job. They could outsource your job overnight in many situations

No. Most regions outline the value of various titles. Certain jobs are worth more depending on where you live. A network administrator in my area will likely make 60 to 80k where a network engineer might make 90 to 100k. If you want more money then advance your position. Don't just grab a sign and stand outside and social justice. That's worthless. studying to advance your own career is worth more than protesting in the streets

One of the side benefits of corrupt "woke culture" is as a tool to stifle and defuse legitimate employee concerns. The LW will now become union busters. Watch the irony unfold sooner rather than later.

The American LW, the new foot soldiers of high level corporate PR.
