I haven't watched cable news for quite awhile. So this is fine with me. I wish they'd all go away. Fox deserves what it gets. I just wish they'd report on the news without guests and slants. I'm an equal opportunity distruster here.

Well, there are simpler ways of doing things. In Canada, Fox is not allowed to call themselves a news organization. For a lot of these fakes news outfits, like check out counter rags, you call them what they are. Some make think it’s difficult to determine when stories are factual or not. It’s not difficult at all. We really shouldn’t be allowing to spew fake sht over the airways and pretend it’s anything more then fake sht.

Btw, the Dem party has nothing to do closing media. They do it to themselves.

For TV media, the Fairness Doctrine as I remembered sure seemed to keep the peace between the big three; ABC, CBS, NBC. But no more, Reagan ended that in 1987(?), and it didn't apply to cable. I think we do need something similar but with an emphasis on the factuality and quality of the reporting.

Of course in this crazy Trumpillian World where up is down and wrong is right, any official sanctioning of such media would always be dismissed by the very same people that would benefit the most. It's not even a question of ignorance, this is a willful manipulation of a mass of people who have been taught to see the world as a hall of mirrors.

 

Well that's one of their arguments. Tech monopolies tell us they are entitled to censor speech because they are private companies, not the government. But what if they are censoring conservative speech in coordination with Democrat Party politicians? And what if those politicians have great power over whether Facebook remains ridiculously profitable on one hand, or is subjected to antitrust sanctions, including breakup, on the other? Are politicians like Elizabeth Warren and Sheldon Whitehouse shielded from scrutiny because they use private entities who have a stranglehold on communications to suppress their political opponents?

That is what being a private entity means. You can use your own property to advance your own politics. You can censor all you want and no one can really stop you.

I really can't understand why so many people here seem to think it's perfectly alright to force you to use your own private property to advance things that very well might make your blood boil. What issue really riles you? Is it abortion, civil rights, rioting, whatever? Do you think that you should be forced to advocate for that issue on your own private and personal web page? Because that is all Parler, and Facebook and Twitter are, they are WEB PAGES, they have a LOT more bandwidth and features than you do but they are just web pages nonetheless. They aren't "big tech" they're just like you and me, and it's your very own self you want to take rights from.

We are building a new house in a southern state and will move in a few months. This country is having a very dangerous split, and if it collapses I want to at least live somewhere warm where people don’t seem to be as radicalized as population up north. I’m a naturalized citizen, I have a firsthand experience of how tough life can get in other countries, and what’s happening in the US is freaking us out - if the country goes down there will be no safe and comfortable place to live on this entire planet, as the downfall of this country will result in centuries of war due to other countries, like Russia and China, trying to climb to the top.
