Depending upon the evidence brought forward, a vote to convict might not be a risk to their careers. Now that the tweeter in chief no longer has the ability to bully and discredit Rep Senators, it could be that they might actually vote for what is right. They will lose support of the Trump supporters, but I'm not sure how much longer they will be hanging on.

Doesn't matter what evidence they bring forward. Most Republicans are not going to vote to convict

Without the Presidency to hide behind, odds are former President Trump is going to be convicted of some crime over the next few years, whether it's for his involvement in the January 6th attempt at sedition, tax or bank fraud, etc., etc. And, he'll probably be bankrupt. At that point, those who voted for conviction on impeachment will look like geniuses. This is a time true Republicans can take back their Party.

Well that's sad. I guess he really could have shot someone on 5th ave and get away with it.

What if he can get enough traction to start his own party? It will just splinter the conservative votes. I'm hoping that he won't get away with his crimes but fear that he might and will come back with a vengeance.

He won't start his own party. Just another way to con followers out of $$$. He just wants that leverage of the threat to force republicans to comply

More garden variety bullying. I hope they don't capitulate.

At this point, I think the chances are greater that he'll be in a prison somewhere, rather than running for President, in 2024.

    Quite the opposite.
They want the voters to remember it.

Most Americans believe Donald Trump is responsible for provoking the violence that shook Capitol Hill last week, according to a recent national poll.

The survey, conducted by ABC News and Ipsos, collected responses from 570 U.S. adults between Friday and Saturday. It found that more than two-thirds of the poll's participants—67 percent—blame the sitting president for Wednesday's riots. Of that group, 52 percent of respondents said they believe Trump shoulders "a great deal" of liability, while another 15 percent said "a good amount" of fault, on his part, is warranted.

Nearly all participants who identified as Democrats supported Trump's removal from office, as did close to 60 percent of those who identified as independents. Just 13 percent of Republicans who participated in the survey said the same.

I think he'll wiggle out of a prison sentence somehow. Either way, I hope he does NOT try to run in 2024. Maybe his die-hard fans will have petered off enough to make that impossible.

That's exactly why. They somehow managed to make this impeachment even more petty than the last one.

    Sedition is not "petty."

it's only ''petty'' in the truncated scope of the scam Mueller investigation which nonetheless rounded up a dirty bakers dozen inner circle mobsters the boss has now pardoned. a sitting President can't be indicted?? who sez? like that would ever stop a righty revenge frenzy?

Liberals always think they know what most Americans are thinking. In reality they don’t because they remain tucked inside their liberal bubble. They isolate themselves from hearing a different view.

Seems like I remember you saying that about the last election.
That one didn't work out to good for you.

I’m not sure why the left is so desperate to invent a crime associated with Trump. Their desperation is pathetic.

The left is wanting to criminalize political differences. That’s banana republic stuff.

Yeh, geez, you guys. All Trump did was to incite his minions to violently attack the building that is the major symbol of the entire US government. All that happened then is that they chased our main elected representatives out of their workplaces, ransacked and pillaged their private offices, and smeared human feces all over everything.

Oh, and they killed several people, including a cop

Christ you guys. You're acting as if these people were doing what just about every American who has died in any of our wars was trying to keep from happening (and yes I include the confederates, I doubt very highly that Robert E. Lee would approve of his Army doing this if they'd won )

No biggies eh? Bygones be gone by?

There was a good chance of conviction in the hours and few days after the storming of the Capitol. Since then Senators have had time to rationalize it all away and build more of a case to protect their own careers than to serve true faith and allegiance to their country, to their oaths of office and to the Constitution.

As expected. Democrat of the House and Senate tend to be gutless cowards and Republicans devoid of personal honor.
