“If we are going to have unity in our country, I think it’s important to recognize the need for accountability, for truth and justice,” Romney said during an appearance on “Fox News Sunday,” adding that he hopes the trial will move “as quickly as possible.”

“It is pretty clear that over the last year there has been an effort to corrupt the election in the United States and it was not by President Biden; it was by President Trump,” Romney added.

While this news is known to anybody with a working brain stem, I do so like to watch so-called Republicans stomp on old Mitt... 3......2......1......Go

As everybody clearly knows, accountability is a prerequisite for any possibility of "unity"...

Anybody disagree? Anybody expecting unity without accountability?

I'm also intensely curious to find out what T**** will come up with as a defense to incitement of insurrection and who will be making that case for him during the trial.

Oh poor Mitt Romney, "corrupting the election" is not the charge before the Senate. The charge, as you rightly state is the incitement of insurrection and the case is mostly hypothetical, there is no actual evidence in the manner of hard evidence(ie: beyond a reasonable doubt.). You can choose to extend that reasonable doubt or not to Trump, but that's not the same thing as hardcore evidence of insurrection or an attempt for insurrection.

Basically the impeachment is toothless. The only thing it might accomplish(if unchallenged by the Supreme Court as some legal scholars have suggested problems with impeaching an ex-president) is to make sure Trump never runs again but that's about it.

Impeachment doesn't require that standard of proof. The election is of course relevant.

I disagree. I believe that it will set a precedent that no American is "untouchable" and "above the law". It may be hard to get the votes to convict but the process must happen.

As to the OP, yes, I believe MANY people think that unity should happen without accountability.

Mitt was a very poor candidate for the GOP and still is. He is the swamp.

    What happened to move on?

The process should've happened when the moment was important, the capitol riots had to have a message sent. But now, as more facts come in about the randomness of the riots, the idea that they're going to convict this guy? Yeah, I wouldn't take the over on Vegas on this one.

So it's really about them stomping their feet, when the event is already over. Marco Rubio(R-Florida) one of my favorite politicians and to me a future President, has already echoed this sentiment.

There was a time when impeachment was necessary but this isn't about unity now, it's about moaning and complaining.

There are 7 people dead as a result of what happened on Jan. 6th. Using that formula, NOBODY should ever have to stand in judgment for what they did as court cases aren't quick. We can't have it both ways.

Think about it.. T****'* trial will start a little over 1 month after the event..

Nothing ever happens that fast, in legal or political circles. AND the D's aren't even rushing here, so Joe can get 2 full weeks of nominees..

    Amazing speed..

Fully agree, but note he's still the best example your party can produce in 2021...

Think on that for a minute...

Yes, it is amazing speed. I was responding to @AmericanNationalist who wrote "The process should've happened when the moment was important" as if the passage of time (of a couple weeks) somehow negates or erases everything that happened that day.

I know.. I was agreeing with you, and he would just continue that same lame arguement if I responded to that post..

"Stomping your feet when the event is already over" he said

Would he prefer somebody stomp their feet beforehand??

Ardent Trump fans want everyone to ignore the fact that The Trumpocity aided and abetted domestic terrorists.

Mitt said that Trump added to the corruption of the election process as fact not as an impeachment charge. Some people are so torqued off that Romney is speaking the truth that they cannot see straight.

Of course Trump committed a Trumpocity against our country and his ardent fans want to cover it up.

It doesn't negate or erases it, but it makes it look incredibly petty(which it is.) Especially when the rationale was "WE GOTTA IMPEACH HIM, OMFG, the nuclear codes"

We go from that urgency to now having this trial because....it heals us?(Like this is their attempt at a Nuremberg trial or something.).

No, it's a complete absolute joke, and I'm glad that they're at least showing me: "Yeah, we're back. We didn't change at all, we still don't care about you peons, vote for us on November though."

Politics is a kabuki theater, a laughing stock, a joke especially in America.

Reading about Mitt Romney complaining about Trump is about as exciting as reading about Chuck Schumer praising sleepy Joe.

Mitt Romney is a card-carrying Democrat, just like you and yours :D

I don't understand your position because you flip-flop between defending Trump to admonishing him (mostly over the COVID response).

This is not about Democrats or Republicans, but about the laws of the land in which we live. We must abide by them even if we think it's pointless. Otherwise, the next guy is going to think he has carte blanche to do anything he pleases and that's not how democracy works.

I would have preferred us taking the immediate action that they said they were going to take. Instead, they are the ones who flip-flopped and went "Well, maybe at a time of more convenience to us". And this is okay to everyone under the idea of "WE GOTTA HOLD HIM ACCOUNTABLE" huff puff.

    It's a joke, you know it's a joke and I know it's a joke.
