What is white culture?

I don't care much for Vikings. But I do like the Greeks who also started out as pirates and ended up creating the foundations for the greatest civilization in history.

 

Oh that’s cool! My favorite civilization is the Arabic civilization that preserved the Greeks because the Christians didn’t think highly of the pagan philosophers outside of neo-Platonism. Andalusia was a marvelous place!

 

It sounds like you're just being offput by my use of the words 'viking' and 'scandanavian'... everyone's looking for codewords these days. Sometimes ppl just want to enjoy brevity, you know.

They did do some horrible things but vikings were much more than drugged up barbarians.
There are different sides to all cultures... Highlight what you want to.

Yeah, I know. I mean Daneslaw was important for Medieval English history. But to simply look at them as “Vikings” is not who they were.

Would it help to know that not only does the lead woman have one of the most impressive vocal ranges I've ever heard (not necessarily displayed in this particular piece) and phenominal vocal control, but the throat singing is obviously well developed, the costumes are hand made (mostly by the performers themselves), the instruments are period and also handmade by the performers (mostly of bone and leather, from what I've seen) and by all accounts they have done an immense amount of research into both the historical styles that likely dominated the culture they're re-enacting and into the psychology that goes into -and results from- their music and presentation.

Its not often you'll find this much production value put into 'playing the bones'.

I'm from down south and this image clearly shows what "White Privilege" I came from...

 

My people are mainly Irish and Germanic with a streak of Cherokee on both sides of my family, with it being much closer in the family tree on one side than the other. As for what is my culture, I suppose, it would be none of the above mentioned. My culture is the culture in the here and now of my life.

I can't answer for USA, but in the context of Europe, what's white culture seems prettu obvious to me.

White culture isn't a thing. There is culture based on national origins, or a culture based on where you reside, but there isn't "white" culture, at least not in the US.

There is a little poetic license involved in calling this result representative of 'white culture' when they appropriated a ravanahatha and a hindu ritual bell to produce the sounds of this nordic german experience!

That’s weird. Almost nothing is fried up north. Except for our wings in our buffalo sauce. Also we have better pizzas up north hands down.

 

I don't understand how we can attribute a specific culture to a skin color. Culture originates in geographical regions. Therefore, a black person from the West Indies would have a VERY different culture than a black person from an African country. Similarly, there is a world of difference between Italian culture and British culture - both perceived as white.

I don't view culture as a racist thing. To me it is a national thing. So my culture is American culture - a culture I adopted by the way.
