The Capitol Riot was no Aberration. It was the first battle of the Civil War

Trump primed his bloodthirsty crowds for years. He sent countless winks and nods to white supremacists, and dangerous militias like the proud boys that he approved of their support. Stand back and stand by, he instructed his army of rejects when challenged to deny them. All along trumpers have been gas lighting the liberals by claiming faux outrage and indignation. They constantly draw false equivalencies, such as the claim that rioters taking a courthouse in Portland is equivalent to a mob seeking to assassinate the Speaker of the House, the VP, and anyone else in Congress who doesn't support trump and his lies. They know that 61 courts have rejected claims of election fraud, some of which were chaired by judges trump appointed, many more that were Republican appointees, but they claim there has been no fair evaluation of the evidence. They know better than that. They know it's a lie. And they know trump has appealed to the dark side of human nature. They not only know, they revel in it!

What the trump wing has proven with their attack on the Capitol and attempt to overthrow our elected government, with their willful arrogance and attacks on the Constitution, with their obvious desire to win no matter the cost, and now with the mass denial by Republican Senators who even denounced trump directly after the attack, but have now gone back to their whimpering and whining and denials of the obvious, is that there is no moving on. Their motives are clear. Their goal is self evident. And any time a trumper starts talking about patriotism, you know they really mean loyalty to trump.

This is the simple fact of the matter: If given the chance, the trump party would make him a dicatator. They have no desire to preserve the Constitution or the country. They just want to win at any cost. And they have proven that they are willing to condone at the highest levels a violent coup, in order to win. Political assassination is fair game. They are willing to wage war on America and they have been doing so for four years.

So this is a war and the first shots have already been fired. The trump wing won't stop until they are utterly defeated or the USA no longer exists. So don't be fooled. They don't want to get along. They don't want to move on. The don't have any interest in compromise or diplomacy or tolerance. And many if not most would be happy to see you and your families dead.

Trump didn't call off the riot until it was clear they had failed to capture and execute the leaders of the government.

He was the commander in chief, the capitol and even his own VP were under attack, and his true-believers are selling the snake oil that he didn't know. Or course he knew exactly what was happening. His only problem was that they failed to overthrow the government and kill the leaders.

That is obvious; it is undeniable, and the trump Senators are condoning it. They are condoning an attack on the United States. That is the definition of the enemy.

No 'shots have been fired'... if they ever are, it won't take paragraphs of mental gymnastics to identify them. Everyone will know.

    Nice try tho.

What percentage of the 70 million who voted for Trump are you talking about?

    @HereWeGoAgain

There will be no civil war. Political acrimony, yes. A civil war, no.

Calm down. Take a walk. Relax. Have a beer. Maybe take a break from the internet and cable news.

Trust me, and just chill out, will ya?

All of them, every ****** one. Make no mistake, politically we have 70 million vipers in our midst and we need to act like that is the case

That may not be any different than it has always been, just now we KNOW it.

Keep in mind, most people aren't really that political. They may disagree with the government but they aren't willing to break the law

But we need to stop denying reality, we need to realize that a large segment of our population disagrees fundamentally with the overall value of Democracy and Enlightenment values I was always told the USA was founded on

    That's crazy.

That is exactly like blaming every last Democrat for the riots in the cities. Every last one of them is responsible for the murders, the arsons, the assaults, the break-ins, and the insurrection.

    Get a grip, man.

Quite a few Republicans do just that, even a cursory examination of this board over the last few years should make that clear.

OK, it's probably not ALL Republicans support the Capitol assault but a good many probably did and until we know who assuming all is probably not a bad idea.

If anyone isn't outraged by trump, his attack on the Capitol, and now esp the total spinelessness of the Republicans who condone this attack by refusing to convict trump, then they are just as guilty as the traitors who sought to assassinate Pelosi and Pence.

One cannot continue to defend or support a traitor or his enablers, and claim to be a patriot or deny responsibility. That just makes that person a liar or a fool, or both.

If you are not denouncing every Senator who votes innocent, if you do not view them as an enemy for condoning trump's attempted insurrection, then you are just as guilty as anyone who stormed the capitol.

Not that high. Many voted for him because they simply can't vote for a democrat and have voted every time in their lives. I'd give the number more on the lines of 35 million. Still, a lot, but they'll dwindle with time.

Just like Reagan had no idea that his underlings had made a deal with the Iranians. If the Iranians held the hostages until after Reagan was president, that Reagan would sell them much needed military equipment spare parts. The hostages were released as Reagan was being sworn in.

While the attack was coming, Republican Senators were trying to vote to annul the election. Had they had a commanding majority, they would have voted to annul the election and to retain the Trump as president. And then, just as they did when they refused to allow Obama a Supreme Court pick, they would have just said, “What are you going to do I about it?” I think that every Congressional Republican, as well as the supporting media is culpable for what happened. Look how quickly they threw Mike Pence under the bus, because he would not cheat for Trump. Because he would not declare the Trump the winner in an election that it did not win.

Finishing second in an election by 10 million votes doesn't entitle anyone to anything. It didn't entitle the Democrats to anything four years ago and it doesn't entitle Trump supporters to anything now. If people were willing to work for the country and not for their tribe we would all be better off.

Republicans in the Senate just fired the second shot

They are condoning a violent coup and refuse to hold anyone accountable. The union is dead. There is no hope of reconciliation now unless trump is convicted on criminal charges.

McConnell did make a real effort to condemn trump. He said trump is guilty but objects on process issues. He strongly implied that criminal charges against trump are pending. So we will see.
