So, the SD voters cast votes to legalize pot, and it passed, so the Governor rejects the results. Same sort of thing happened in Florida when we passed a law to allow ex-felons to vote. The State GOP stepped in and made sure 95% of ex-felons could not vote. It seems they are OK trying democracy, but if it doesn't go their way, they reject the results. Trump did everything in his power do to just that, but did not succeed. Seems pretty corrupt if you asked me. And no, I am not a person who advocates for legalization. South Dakota judge rejects amendment legalizing marijuana https://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory...jects-amendment-legalizing-marijuana-75763715 PIERRE, S.D. -- A South Dakota judge on Monday struck down a voter-approved constitutional amendment that legalized recreational marijuana after Gov. Kristi Noem's administration challenged it. Circuit Judge Christina Klinger ruled the measure approved by voters in November violated the state's requirement that constitutional amendments deal with just one subject and would have created broad changes to state government.
Not sure about the situation in DC today, but when they legalized pot in 2014, the Congress refused to create laws to regulate it, and the legalization could not go fully into effect. I think consumption is legal, but sales are not until the Congress creates a law to regulate it. Maybe they will do that now that Dems control Senate
As Mr. Justice Brandeis noted in the last century, "If we desire respect for the law, we must first make the law respectable." That particularly applies to the notion of prohibition against marijuana.
Those that support Prohibition of Marijuana support the funding of gangs and terrorism I love using this anti-Marijuana ad to support legalization "Drug Money Funds Terrorism And Terrorists"
I assume that this judge did not invent this prohibition against writing initiatives that impact a broad scope of South Dakota law out of thin air and he has language to cite in his opinion, and that the proponents who wrote it this were actual lawyers paid to do this right. They need to go back to the drawing board and rewrite a version of this that does not breach the South Dakota standards for properly designed initiative. Sometimes folks just get too ambitious and bite off more than they can chew when they decide to 'fix' things via the initiative petition process.
oh please, we just had 2 ballot initiatives to clean up words in FL including the homestead exemption. Seems to me that those who wrote the initiative didn't do their homework. They will just have to write it correctly and send it to the voters. That is how the game is played in politics.
No, its not how the 'game' is played. If there is a popular vote, then typically results (the will of "We The People") are honored, but that is apparently not the case in Florida or South Dakota.
incorrect not liking the results doesn't mean that something insidious is at play. It cuts both ways. As for FL and voting by ex-felons, you are not being sincere. The ruling remains in place for all ex-felons who complete their sentence which INCLUDES fees and fines, will have their voting rights restored. Why did you leave out that piece? You do the crime you are sentenced to incarceration as well as fees and fines that must be paid. The entirety is your "sentence" for the crime if you DO NOT satisfy everything, not just 1/2, then you cannot vote. It is now the choice of the ex-felons to complete their entire sentence and be able to vote. In the past, even after competing the ENTIRE sentence, ex-felons could not vote; now they can. To net this out= FL did a good thing but you misrepresent it
yep, those dang potheads looking in a mirror wondering if he would be able to see his reflection if he was going the speed of light..... hmmmm http://eazysmoke.com/marijuana-quotes.htm "The prestige of government has undoubtedly been lowered considerably by the prohibition law. For nothing is more destructive of respect for the government and the law of the land than passing laws which cannot be enforced. It is an open secret that the dangerous increase of crime in this country is closely connected with this." - Albert Einstein quote on Hemp"
Another red state leader that doesn't believe in democracy. It always cracks me up when trumpees try to argue that the right wing protects their freedom. What a joke! The right wing tries to control your personal life right down to what you can smoke, drink, bet, the right to die, and even what hole you can put your penis in. But the most offensive and inhumane and evil of their positions is that people have to suffer horribly with no hope of recovery; forcing untold millions to endure intolerable pain for years, to endure a living hell indeterminately, so the righties can feel good thumping their bibles.
Perhaps they evaluated the train wreck from this effort that occurred in Colorado? As for ignoring laws, the Left went FAR down that rabbit hole when they chose to nullify federal immigration statutes they didn't agree with. That's just how lawlessness rolls.
Politicians gonna politician. As a cannabis smoker myself I'm split on legalisation. The black market does a pretty good job compared with the legal market for tobacco or alcohol. The left preaches on drugs while not really doing all that much to change things, just as the right does on guns. You can't trust any of them. They are politicians after all.
