And guess what? Grid tied solar or wind doesn't work when the grid is down, so you can have panels all over your roof and you lights will remain out until the local distribution grid is restored.

Are you kidding? Just take five minutes to look up green energy subsidies.

Looked it up in total green energy gets 6.6billion in federal subsidies every year. Fossil fuels about 8 percent of that and that's mostly in the form of depletion allowances.

Mostly they don't have clue the average person that thinks wind mills are a solution to much of anything has never been within a hundred miles of one.

Thanks. I couldn't find anything from last year, but 2019 saw ~$20 billion in subsidies for coal, oil and gas. Far more than renewables. The 6.6 is sure to go up but let's not pretend the oil companies aren't sucking our tax dollars as well.

Somebody's blowing smoke I found 480 million in 2016. Somebody made some bad assumptions in their numbers. Note not every subsidy big oil, Exxon for instance gets is directly related to oil. For instance Exxon has built a crap load of wind farms and is heavily invested in biodiesel research and development all of those get them subsidies that have nothing to do with fossil fuels. Same is true for other US based major oil companies.

I just read a Forbes article from 2016. It's a lot more than what you're claiming. That was over 4 years ago anyway.

It's in the 10s of billions.

Hey, gas and coal powerstation are down too! This happens when demands outpace supplies.

Incorrect, unless off for pre-planned maintenance, neither coal nor gas generation is offline.

Do you really have a clue of what you are talking about, or do you just make this crap up?

so less than three times as much for 90 percent of our energy supply. Do even if the numbers are right and I doubt it, ten percent of our power is getting more than 1/4 of the subsidies. And that doesnt include hidden subsidies the tax payers themselves are paying in higher utility bill in order to create a less stable energy grid.

Which happens when 20 percent of your supply us down when ever the wind speed is out of parameters or the windmills freeze up and cloud cover exceeds parameters.

Simple, fall back on conventional generation or worse peakers.

The problem is you need far more reserve capacity if your going to use wind and solar.

And reserve capacity is expensive and polluting, negating the benefits of solar and wind.

I defer to your expertise on drivel. You've nailed it!

AOC has done her job if she threatens your sensibilities.

Debunking Myths About Federal Oil & Gas Subsidies (forbes.com)

It's a wide swath, but nowhere near what you claim. $10 billion at least. It's a good article. Calculating subsidies can be done in many ways. They cover the estimates from a $10 billion to $52 billion. It's a matter of perspective, but it's in the tens of billions.

I’m not sure what your point is. Back during the fires this summer electricity was shut off over large portions of the state. Just a few weeks ago our utility conducted rolling blackout because of high winds heightening wildfire possibilities.
