Rush was an imperfect human being but he was a good spokesman for the conservatives of the country. Sad that the many people who disagreed with his politics hated him so much and tried to shut him down.
Rush wrote two best selling books -- "The Way Things Ought To Be" and "See, I Told You So". Plus he wrote a series of children's books. Any time a child called Rush on his show to praise his book Rush took a lot of time with the kid and treated the kid as an equal.
Rush supported several charities including a telethon for leukemia and lymphoma, the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation, and the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which honors a firefighter who died saving others in the 9/11 attack on the Twin Towers.
I saw a well known lady on TV last night who said she had one lunch with Rush. She said Rush tipped the waitress $2,000.

His lies and fake news about the coronavirus alone should have gotten him fired for dereliction of duty as a broadcaster.
He shares the blood trump has on his hands for all the excess deaths caused by his lies and incompetence during the pandemic.

Neither did Limbaugh's level of "character". Limbaugh was scummy and the people celebrating his death are scummy

He presented to laymen what it means to be American in a system of American laws and traditions. He reinforced to listeners that the federal budget was made up of taxpayers money - your money. Not theirs. Besides all of that, Rush made you feel better. He made you want to do better.

It was fun and informative and up beat, not sour and downcast. When conservatives lost, he saw it as an opportunity for the GOP to find those "missing" people.

If Biden had the balls he would have ordered flags at half staff.

For one there was his "AIDS Update". Limbaugh’s “AIDS Update,” a recurring segment in which he made jokes about a disease that had killed more than 100,000 people in the United States the previous decade, started by playing songs such as “Back in the Saddle Again,” “Kiss Him Goodbye,” “I Know I’ll Never Love This Way Again,” and “Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places.”

Did you ever see the "parody" he did in which he made sport of James Brady's speech defect which was caused by the abortive assassination attempt? The same level of comic genius as the Man of Bronze later employed against the one reporter who dared question him while having a chronic disability.

Conservatives are laff riots when they attack the handicapped.

Limbaugh should burn in hell for this alone. **** him and I'm glad he's dead

Funny how some people accuse conservatives of being liars yet they are on board with the sick lies from the left...

Believing everybody that holds differing opinions than you is lying or lied two is a major fallacy. In fact it borders on a mental illness.

I think somebody forgot to teach you what opinions are.

Right-- glad that there is one less propagandist, sowing division-- after hearing of his death. As long as you hadn't been praying for it (humoring your, "burn in hell," conceit, as if you believed in such things), we agree on that.

P.S.-- If you had, just recently, begun sticking pins in a Rush Voodoo doll-- don't take my comments as a criticism, by any means, of your wishing for another's death. You gotta be you!

I would, in theory, agree with you, jcarlilesiu, except I would point out that it is not the sort of judgement that someone could reasonably arrive at, from an isolated example. That is, it could be a VALID opinion that another person is lying, or a liar (a recently vacated president comes to mind, as an easily provable example).

Lacking a significant track-record, your mental-health, diagnostic insinuation, itself, is only an opinion (which some might take to be merely a convincing but specious argument). Might I recommend, if you recognize the pattern, from some poster, of frequently & baselessly referring to opposing views as, "lies," that quoting these examples would add a lot of weight to your indictment. (See ahead, for my even-handedness.)

I must say that my opinion of Limbaugh was in line with at least two of the three emboldened lines, immediately above (I would not have used the word, "scummy," but I have not followed him closely). I, admittedly, only knew of his work, in context, from many, many years ago, seeing an episode of his ill-fated tv show.

Yet, my negative opinion has been formed from numerous clips of Rush's radio show-- on news opinion shows from MSNBC to Jon Stewart's Daily Show-- which have impressed me as more pernicious, than simply opinions that opposed my own. I also learned, from a less-biased news report, that Limbaugh was the equivalent, in popular right-wing talk radio, to Phil Donahue, for daytime t.v. talk shows. Not that I don't applaud success, but it doesn't sit well when one's rise is innately tied to the overall society's detriment.

As I'd said, though, this was my personal impression, not an opinion I would feel competant supporting in actual debate with one of his supporters. The reason for this posting of mine, since it seems that the two sides of the argument are simply talking past one another-- Rush was a great guy; No, he was a crumb!-- is to encourage those who are impugning his character, to post some of the clips of his radio show that would SUBSTANTIATE describing Limbaugh as contemptible.

    Doesn't THAT sound like fun?

But that is not the case. Not really. It can be shown that right-wing media regularly misinforms their audience and knowingly so. It is more than a coincidence that pretty much everyone who denies global warming regularly gets their information from right-wing media. The whole blow up about the election being stolen from the Trump through voter fraud, is a claim without merit, yet large numbers of conservatives believe it because it has been repeatedly claimed by right-wing media. Same with the attempted insurrection on the sixth of January. Clearly it was an attempt to hang on power. A power it does not deserve. Yet conservatives, in very large numbers, have come to believe a different narrative, one that does not square with the available evidence. During the Trump’s second impeachment trial, FOX News turned away and showed fluff, while the most damning evidence was presented. From my point of view, it may not be mental illness, but clearly a less discriminating mental functioning to repeatedly believe things that are not true, even if they are just one’s opinions.

I followed the Politifact link (@Lee Atwater) to see what recent falsehoods it attributed to Limbaugh. After eliminating everything that wasn't completely untrue, a pattern emerged on just the first page. And it didn't paint a picture of someone who was making things better; it did, however, give some sense of his character.

There were a lot of lies related to Obama-- these only covered his last cpl. of yrs in office (I'm sure they were more numerous, & uglier, in Obama's first years)-- African Americans, immigrants, & Muslims.

A second theme, you could say, was,"science," though the comments were anything but. They were all about promoting the idea that Climate Change is a hoax, and about the Covid-19 pandemic (calling it, "the common cold," & falsely claiming that the AMA had reversed itself & now endorsed hydroxychloroquine), except for one curious comment about gorillas disproving the theory of Evolution (I wonder if that more appropriately fits under his racial/ethnic views).

The rest of the non-truths were general political, with the most damning being his claim that Joe Biden & the Democrats hadn't legitimately won the election, really stoking those fires of outrage and anger (what bad could that lead to?) to which he had only been providing kindling, with his lie about the first impeachment inquiry's unfair treatment of Trump.

If one wanted to believe he had not been exploiting the topics that he knew his listeners would eat up, one would have to accept that he was something of a conspiracy theorist, who was misinformed in many of his beliefs. Not my idea of a real stand-up guy, or someone whose loss leaves the world, or our nation, a poorer place.

To be totally honest, though, I would have expected the lie-parade to have been worse. I wonder if that means I've begun accepting the calling our elections rigged, & the spreading of bald face lies about our leaders, as normal. That is a big part of the legacy that Mr. Rush Limbaugh can, legitimately, claim as his own contribution to America.

    Rush Limbaugh
stated on June 24, 2014 in a broadcast of the "Rush Limbaugh Show":
"Obama regime planned the influx of illegal alien children at the border."

    Rush Limbaugh
stated on February 3, 2015 in a broadcast of the "Rush Limbaugh Show":

The children coming across the southern U.S. border "were never examined after they got here and quarantined if they had a disease. They were just sent out across the country. Many of them had measles ... We now have an outbreak of it all because of our immigration policy."

:Says the media created the term "polar vortex" and the cold air proves "the ice isn’t melting."
