Part of the reason Russia supports Assad is because Russians are also Orthodox Christians.

Most Syrians used to hate Assad - this was very true. They like him alot more now .. as the grass was not greener on the other side of the Septic Tank and he was democratically re-elected.

Regardless - the "Moderate" freedom loving people of Syria - Christians- Muslims and others choose the side of Assad over that of ISIS not because of any love of Assad .. but, because the alternative was far worse.
