If you think about it, the Tarzan story is one of the most racist stories in literature. It is about a baby white boy who was raised by apes in the African jungle far from any semblance of civilization or interaction with humans. So, as time passes, the boy, who should be as ignorant as a tree trunk, grows into a man and meets a white woman and immediately becomes civilized and articulate in the English language. The story is intended to disparage the Black Africans. It is pure racism in its finest form because when you see the character in the movies you never question the reality of it. That is how people become racists. They never think about what they see or what they read.
I agree. I've never been a fan of Tarzan, but I've heard Black educators criticize the story of Tarzan for the very reasons you mention. But, I don't want to turn this thread into a race debate. So, I won't say anything more. Thank you for your comment.
I wonder, would it be possible to give up masks for Lent? Or would people still act like a scene from "The Bodysnatchers" (or even "5 Million Years to Earth")?
I wish I could give up the masks for Lent. Or for the rest of my life; I will never get used to them.
Hello friends. Today is April 2, 2021. I read that it's OK to end the Lent season after April 1st, so I consider my Lent promises complete. Thank you all for keeping me accountable. Hope you all have a nice Easter!
I ended my Lent season yesterday April 1, 2021. I am thinking about getting some takeout Chinese food today. Or some takeout Mexican food. I can't decide which!
