Mitt Romney predicts Donald Trump will win 2024 Republican nomination if he runs again

It's clear they are going to have to find a way to not fracture the party. I'm afraid that Romney is right and there will be no stopping Trump if he wants to keep his hat in the ring. Much depends on what happens to Trump between now and then. Are any of the pending and upcoming charges going to diminish his chances? I think they would probably hurt any other candidate but not so sure about Trump. He seems almost invincible.

    What do you think?

A few things. BTW I like your civil posting style. You just asked what we think instead of being like "what do you trumptards think, will your orange God be president again"?
Some people should follow this example. OK, back on topic now!
    What do I think?
    1. I think Mitt is majorly butt-hurt that a reality show host with no political experience did what he couldn't do
    2. I don't think Trump will run again
    3. If GOP voters are dumb enough to vote for someone who was a one term president , then oh well, i guess whatever happens, happens, but i'm pretty sure it won't be good for the GOP in the long run
    4. GOP needs to play the race game, plain and simple. Race card is the ONLY real weapon the left has, take that away and you take away their party
The above is all what I "THINK", not "KNOW", so anyone thats offended, please chill. Get called a racist on a daily basis just because you voted for lower taxes and border security and THEN COME TALK TO ME, got it? thanks

It could happen. If the left pushes gun control and puts people out of business, he starts to look good.

An indication that Mitt thinks like thousands of former GOP' ers who have switched party's since January 6, that his party has gone to hell in a hand basket.

Mittens should probably not run for re-election in 2024. Actually, ANY of the Republicans who refused to stand up for the party's choice should be primaried and exposed for the establishment corruption they represent.
Trump may well signal the end of the feckless GOP. 70% of GOP voters voted Trump. He could, and may, take full control of the GOP going forward.

I think you guys give Donald Trump way too much credit.
People were pissed about failed leftist policies (not saying republican policies are totally amazing or anything so CHILL) and Donald Trump played to this.
We still have at least 4 years of Biden and pretty much any candidate can use whatever pisses people off about the next 4 years in their campaign strategy regarding the next presidential election.
Trump didn't do anything that wasn't done before.
Also, 4 years is a long time when you are Trump's age and he isn't exactly a fitness enthusiast. Look at how Uncle Joe can't even form a coherent sentence. Trump is creeping up there!
If he runs again and wins the primaries but doesn't take the gold, those voters will have themselves to blame.

I agree that Trump voters are pis$ed about falling behind in the economic rat race. They need someone to blame. Traditionally, the GOP's position has been that if you don't do well economically, it is your own damn fault. Trump, on the other hand, told them that it is not their own fault that they are falling behind, but it is rather the fault of the Democrats, foreigners, Mexicans, China, the "elite", the media .... insert anyone else on the Trump enemy list. That made Trump voters feel good about themselves, because it is easier to blame someone else for the ills in your life than to blame yourself. That's the typical populist message that has been exploited by other populists in the past.

In reality, of course, Trump voters have caused their own economic predicament by voting for GOP supply side economic policy for decades, being grateful for the pittance of tax cuts they got while being robbed blind by the top 1%. I have to say, I don't have a lot of sympathy for people who vote consistently against their own interest, based on feelings.

Its for the SAME reason (voting on feelings rather than policy) that I feel the same exact thing about the left. Are they all like that? no. but its tough to not form that opinion when you ask a left winger what joe biden policy they like and their answer is "his best policy is NOT being Donald Trump"
That being said, how do you think lefty economic policies would help the middle class? IMO they get the most screwed. They contribute the most but get the least amount of handouts but still are not close to "rich"
How will Biden's policies help them. I also don't think tax cuts are this magical wand and I know GOP gets a lot of people on this, but i'd like to know how middle class benefits at all from the policies of the left. At least with tax cuts (i know it isn't a magical fix ) they still get SOMETHING. I'm all ears.

Romney is probably right, but I doubt that Trump will run again.
Especially if a serious very anti-establishment populist alternative appears.

Most Trump voters I know have little interest in the GOP or its economic policies. The leadership of both parties are very repulsive to almost all ordinary Americans.

So, you are saying most Trump voters didn't vote for Reagan, and Bush, and GWB, and McCain, and Romney... All of them championing the same supply side policies. And you are saying that most Trump voters do not care about the pro-2nd amendment and pro-life stance that has been the hallmark of keeping GOP voters in check for decades? My feeling: GOP voters just vote for the GOP candidate, no matter who he is. They just like Trump a little better than traditional GOP candidates.

Most Republicans will vote for any Republican over any Democrat. That is the nature of party politics, but Trump relied on anti-establishment Democrats, independents and Republicans to win. IMO, this is an accurate description of what activated most Trump voters:

“Trump’s election is going to be the biggest ‘f**k you’ ever recorded in human history — and it will feel good,” Moore argued.

“Whether Trump means it or not is kind of irrelevant because he’s saying the things to people who are hurting, and that’s why every beaten-down, nameless, forgotten working stiff who used to be part of what was called the middle class loves Trump,” Moore continued. “He is the human Molotov cocktail that they’ve been waiting for, the human hand grenade that they can legally throw into the system that stole their lives from them.”

SALON, Michael Moore: People will vote for Donald Trump as a giant “F**k you” — and he’ll win, Forget the polls, boho-proletarian filmmaker tells movie audience: Trump's "legal terrorism" will win, MATTHEW SHEFFIELD, OCT 26, 2016.https://www.salon.com/2016/10/26/mi...-donald-trump-as-a-giant-fk-you-and-hell-win/

So Romney knows full well that the GOP voters in the 2020 election actually support MAGA candidates such as Donald Trump and not GOPe candidates such as himself, McConnell, Graham, etc...

Trump negotiated a deal with RP establishment and the Deep State that allowed him to remain in the WH for four years and make a few modest policy changes that stimulated economic growth. He did nothing to "drain the swamp" He never caught on to just how much they despised him. Given his poor personnel decisions he was lucky to achieve anything. He will be remembered as a very effective president, and will not be blamed for the lockdown even though the responsibility lies primarily with him.

Only massive transfers of wealth to the productive working class might have made it impossible for the political class to kick him to the curb. His proposed $2000 direct payment may be an indication that he finally had an epiphany - too late.

It will take someone far more hostile to the political class and adept than Trump to reverse the decline of the working class in America, and reduce the power of our corrupt bipartisan ruling class. I doubt he will run again.

You lost me at the underlined point. THIS is the problem. The persistent bs that is part of the whole Q crap that has festered and come to full bloom under the Rump presidency.

There is no "Deep State". There is no cabal of Illuminati or any other group orchestrating the collapse of American democracy. It is the unfettered desire to allow conspiratorial theories to infect a segment of the population that has brought us to where we are today, and the continual belief and repetition of this nonsense is driving us further apart because you can't have a reasonable debate with someone who has supplanted reality for this fiction.

The Deep State has been a fully exposed fact of life wherever Big Government exists it has nothing to do with "Q crap".

"The 9/11 attacks triggered the rapid growth of an opaque security and intelligence machine often unaccountable to the civilian legal system. In the 2000s, the critique focused on a “war machine” of military and intelligence officials, defense contractors and neoconservative ideologues who, in some versions, took orders directly from Vice President Dick Cheney. In the Obama era, the focus shifted to the eerie precision of “targeted killings” by drones, and then the furor over Snowden, the ex-National Security Agency contractor whose 2013 leaks exposed the astonishing reach of the government’s surveillance. “There’s definitely a deep state,” Snowden told the Nation in 2014. “Trust me, I’ve been there.”

If that happens he will not have to campaign to win.

I think the whole forum is designed for people to express their opinions on these matters so I don't see why anybody would get bent out of shape about you expressing yours. Thanks for sharing it.

P.S. It might sound naïve but I try to treat others the way I want to be treated. Doesn't always work out that way though. ;-0

Okay, I don't deny those events happened, but it really is a stretch by leaps and bounds to think there is a concerted effort to undermine our democracy and government, let alone a president, by these same people who have access to these tools. Of course, that narrative was effective for Rump and his minions for political purposes, but it doesn't carry much water without actual proof of a conspiracy.

    From your link:

Some of the subversion and leaks Trump has faced are merely federal employees defending their turf from budget cuts and bone-headed ideas. That’s far from the way the right-wing blogger Mike Cernovich described matters in August, when he told fellow conspiracy theorist and talk-radio host Alex Jones that the deep state would turn, literally, murderous: “Trump will be killed. … They’re going to kill us, they’re going to kill him, they’re going to kill everybody.”
