That's a good question. Is there any way to resurrect Dwight Eisenhower? I've always been impressed by Nikki Haley. She has grace and class, and she's very sharp, and she's experienced. Perhaps with Ben Carson as a running mate? Maybe Allen West as a running mate? Sen. Ben Sasse has a very sharp mind, and he's experienced. All 4 of those are experienced and classy individuals.
Notable people who have declined invitations to speak at CPAC: Mike Pence Nikki Haley Liz Cheney Mitch McConnell Notable people who have accepted speaking positions (among a great many): Pompeo DeSantis Noem Carson Rest of the speakers list with photos: https://cpac.conservative.org/speakers/ On the declined list, I think only Haley and Pence have possible/probable sights on a 2024 run. On the accept list, I think there are maybe a dozen people eyeing the 2024 grand prize, including the four I listed above. Seems like declining a CPAC invitation is not the best move, Trump or no Trump. The annual conservative conference is a big deal in showcasing the "stars" of the GOP. Of course if Trump runs he'll win the nomination according to today's support numbers from Republican voters.
Mike Pence is a religious zealot. We don't need the Taliban here. Ben Sasse, I don't know much about him but listening to him speaking lately in the Senate, I found him smart and focused, yes. Getting to know him more, there are good chances I'd vote for him. Ben Carson, no. He's a bit odd, in my opinion. Nikki Halley, not so sure either. I like Maryland governor Larry Hogan. A ticket with Ben Sasse and Larry Hogan might be a very good one. The problem is, the good ones never win the primaries, given that the base that votes in the GOP primaries is now dominated by extremists. That is still not the case in the Dem primaries; they did fend off Bernie Sanders, twice, and went for relatively centrist candidates. If Trump runs, he will win the primaries, and of course crash and burn in the general election. If the GOP endorses his run they are asking to be defeated because he doesn't stand a chance any better than a snowball's in Hell. The thing is, Trump won in 2016, barely, by the thinnest margin, against a very unpopular candidate, and helped by a constellation of favorable factors that converged in a very odd manner. Then he lost in 2020 by a bigger margin, and since then, squandered a lot of support. His base is shrinking over the last four months since his disgraceful behavior after the November election, so there is no reason whatsoever to suspect that he'd have a better run in 2024, unless Biden has a completely disastrous administration and runs again. If Biden grows extremely unpopular and his administration completely sinks, it's more likely that he'd simply not run again, rather than risk losing to Trump. Any Dem candidate who is not unpopular will easily beat Trump in 2024.
Pence may have strong religious beliefs, but I don't think he's a religious nut. Nikki Haley has quite a strong resume and a lot of grace and classiness. Ben Carson is a little odd, but he's had experience in government now, and I think he is a decent person at heart. The first time I ever really paid any attention to Ben Sasse was during the Kavanaugh hearings, and this speech was very impressive. If you want to know a bit more about him, listen to this. I was impressed by his awareness of the roles of the branches of government, and his analysis of what has gone wrong. Very well articulated. Meanwhile, I'll check out Larry Hogan because I don't know anything about him. Seth
Here is something worth reading: Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago Helipad Being Removed (tmz.com) Donald Trump no longer has the privilege of using Marine One whenever he pleases ... so his exclusive helipad at Mar-a-Lago is getting the boot. According to new building permits -- obtained by TMZ -- the formal process of removing the helipad from the former President's favorite resort has begun ... and it looks like the job will cost about $15,000. Trump's helipad is apparently an exception to the rule in Palm Beach, FL, which doesn't normally allow helicopters or helipads in the city. It approved it for Trump's use early in his term though ... "for business relating solely to the office of the president." Trump loses another priviledge. How many more will he lose?
The irony, though none of his haters can see it, is that it's their hysterical hate that will keep him in the news and in the position to be supported by tens of millions. Americans, until recently, had a penchant for cheering for the underdog and defending those who were being bullied. I'll make a modest prediction here. IF the Left keep coming after him for years while their swamp scum dictator wannabees are creating chaos in DC, he not only may run, he could win bigger than he did in 2020. Save the arguments and mockery for someone who cares what cheaters and liars believe, eh?
It seems that the Trump haters are only part of the equation. What bout tall the "lefties haters" ?? It is kind of amazing that any one gets along ... Perhaps reducing the temperature is a place to start , if we want to make any progress.
According to the docs ... Pyramid Builders of Palm Beach will be handling the demolition. It means the helipad will be no more at Mar-a-largo.
Trump vows to CPAC crowd not to start a new party https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/...mail&utm_campaign=WEX_Breaking News&rid=71204 Hmm. Well, that is what he is saying now. ...
There will be no Presidential elections until 2024 and no one really knows what will happen then. Biden is President and that's the way it is and the way it will stay.
His future plans will be influenced by the investigations taking place. I think and wouldn't be surprised that Trump has brainwashed many Republicans and they're doing what he wants and I know it's wrong. Trump is ruining the Republicans if he hasn't already.
Trump not allowed back on Facebook yet—but showdown looms https://time.com/6046197/donald-tru...tm_content=+++20210505+++body&et_rid=66270089 Donald is not taking kindly to this
Trump ought to be banned from Facebook and Twitter and all others permanently. He's caused too much trouble to many of us.
Would agree with permanent banning. He uses social media in a very negative way........ and fosters a cult -like following. His words are inflammatory and his followers are inclined to act on them.
Trump has many followers and will do whatever he says. There are those out there that still see Trump as President.
One really has to question their sanity as they are rather delusional abut Trump. It is as if they lost their critical thinking capacity...and individuality. It is a fascinating psycho-social phenomena. This is how psychopathic leaders get their followers to do atrocious things. They foster MOB thinking and Mob power. The following becomes one identity.
He lost the election but still holds power in the minds of many. On the issue of paid speaking engagements, books, and TV appearances, are those things you oppose? Why?
Trump will continue to milk money from his faithful till the last possible minute and then say he is not running.
