Modern mainstream neoclassical economics is most definitely a hoax. It is a thoroughly fake science with no empirical validity, and no ability to make reliably accurate predictions more complex than, "The recent trend will continue." Neoclassical capital theory was proved incoherent 60 years ago in the Cambridge Capital Controversy, but neoclassical economists have simply ignored that fact and continued to teach their proved-false theory ever since. Which might be one reason they unanimously failed to foresee the GFC in 2007.
