The extreme cold snaps are just as much a part of global warming as last year's fires in California. The cold snap and severe snowstorms that recently struck Texas and most the the rest of the country were caused by a weakened polar vortex:

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polar_vortex#Climate_change

"The general assumption is that reduced snow cover and sea ice reflect less sunlight and therefore evaporation and transpiration increases, which in turn alters the pressure and temperature gradient of the polar vortex, causing it to weaken or collapse. This becomes apparent when the jet stream amplitude increases (meanders) over the northern hemisphere, causing Rossby waves to propagate farther to the south or north, which in turn transports warmer air to the north pole and polar air into lower latitudes."

I had to look these up, so let me save you the trouble.

Transpiration is the term used for the process by which the sun's warmth sucks water up from the earth's surface into the atmopsphere.

    Rossby waves require a link:

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rossby_wave

"Atmospheric Rossby waves on Earth are giant meanders in high-altitude winds that have a major influence on weather. These waves are associated with pressure systems and the jet stream."

Climate science is very complex, involving dozens of scientific disciplines and thousands of publish results. Weather and climate are not the same thing. The latter is what determines the former.

You have no idea how much I do to reduce my carbon footprint.
I live off grid in a tiny home. My power comes from solar and wind.
I drive a 20 year old car with a one litre engine.
I haven't flown in ten years.
    I don't eat meat.
I use a composting toilet to save water.
I make everything last until it breaks or wears out.
    I recycle.
    I could go on...

Ever here of not enough to matter?
It's an increase of 1 part per ten thousand in the last 140 years. Respiration sand transpiration create more co2. Yearly than all the co2 produced by mfg and cars since the beginning of the industrial revolution.

I love it when someone says this, but yet will use the heat in the summer as evidence of global warming.

I can appreciate all of those things, but it is true that the very people who tend to scream loudest about GW does NONE of those things.

That's not true. Many of us have been recycling, composting, all sort of things to reduce our "carbon footprint" since back in the early 70s. Nowadays, as technology catches up, many of the same people are buying hybrids or electric cars. Some have installed solar panels.

    How about you?

And fyi, the planet is not in danger. The earth will survive whatever we do to it. What won't survive if we do nothing is our habitat. People are already migrating away from the coasts, and away from regions that have become too hot and dry to grow food. What won't survive are millions of other species, and maybe even ours.

Also, preaching is the word you're using to describe the process by which many of us are trying to educate those who deny or dismiss the science.

It's a very complex issue, involving many different scientific disciplines and thousand of scientists, conducting tests and publishing peer-reviewed documents on their findings. Putting all of that together and getting the big picture is not a simple matter of looking at the weather or tossing a snowball around in the Senate chambers.

Yeah... because the term "global" in "global warming" means Texas, right?

Hey man! That was 6 years ago! It was kinda ridiculous then but... now it's just.... it's as if somebody were to say today "there is no proof that smoking is bad for your health", or "there is no scientific evidence that the earth is not flat" or... something like that. The time for those debates is waaay back in the past. Now people are using their time to deal with the consequences and finding ways to mitigate it. Not wasting time in debating something that science settled decades ago.

Use? Nonsense. It's all related, including the brutal cold snaps like this recent one. That's weather. Climate is the force driving the weather, and the heat is getting dramatically higher in many places on the planet.

Have you ever read Adam Smith? He wrote only two books, so there isn’t that much to read. Do you know what he disliked the least? Monopolies. That is why he so disliked Mercantilism. It created monopolies. The oil companies now form a type of monopoly. To drive your vehicle, you have to pay someone else to provide you fuel. To drive your car, you have to contribute just a little more wealth to the murderous Saudi family. If you had an electric powered vehicle, you could make your own electricity, via photovoltaic cells and wind turbines. You are not free, if you are tied to a product, whose price is often outside of your control. Like a drug addict, without options.

What horse crap. The real monopolies are the tech oligarchs, who have decided, at the behest of the government, to control speech.

Not if we become oil independent and we are close to that now. We only import 6% of our petroleum products from Saudi Arabia.

Then why the EFF are we still afraid to confront them about issues such as the brutal murder and dismemberment of an American-based journalist? Why no sanctions for MLB? Why is Biden afraid to upset that applecart? I'm very disappointed.

No one is controlling speech. You are free to post provided you follow the sites rules. You can’t complain about getting kicked off a site if you choose not to follow the rules of said site. It’s actually a fairly simple concept

The fact that they don't have total control does not mean they aren't trying.

Nonsense, the rules, as such, are literally enforced at whim which means it doesn't matter unless they want it to.
