That’s not proof, it’s puffery. Somehow, I suspect noone complained when conditions caused bills to be significantly lower than the flat charge.

He’s not running for election. As I understand it these variable rate contracts were voluntary.

He's not running for re-election now, and I wouldn't give him too much of a contribution next time either. Voluntary or not people don't usually tend to blame themselves and give the local pol a break at election time.

OTOH these are Republicans in Texas. They're probably already figuring out how to blame a snowstorm on Latinos and immigrants

So the defense of the gop regulators now is, they were too stupid to understand climate change. So they didn’t require winterization which put all of its citizens in a tough position. It wasn’t their fault. They don’t understand science. I’ll repeat. Our state doesn’t allow this gambling on utilizes. It also requires that all utilities be unaffected by cold weather. You’d better bury your pipes deep enough or they’ll fine your asteroid.m

They CHOOSE to purchase their electricity at current wholesale price. NO ONE forced them to do so. It was explained their cost goes with the wholesale cost which changes constantly. They did so because it is normally cheaper than the retail flat rate which most people pay. They rolled the dice, they took a chance for lower monthly rates rather than locking in the flat retail rate.

So who should be blamed for their consumer choice?

Why? I "speculate" on higher insurance deductibles. The difference has LONG since been made up in premium savings which in part are in my emergency money. If someone who choose the lower rate just took part of that savings to put into a rainy day or snow day fund they'd have money to pay the higher rate to which they contracted.

And quite frankly it's the variable rate mortgages that are FAR more of a risk especially now when mortgage rates are low and only have one way to go and that is up. Granted I took one out once but that was when mortgage rates were 14% and were hitting their peak and the only what almost anyone could get one. The first year rate was 9% and rated fell every year till I re-fied once they hit 6% which was considered low rates by then.

Unless it's totally unregulated and taking advantage of people in special circumstances. These aren't people trying to make a killing in hedge funds, they're families trying to save a few dollars on their electricity. They get a once-in-a-decade weather event and besides being frozen they have to give their life savings to the power company that didn't weatherize.

Again, I really don't want to be the campaign manager for ANY Republican in the next Texas elections.

There are three power grids...East West and; Texas that wants no regulation so they can screw their customers. If you are in Texas, there is no such thing as a citizen in Texas, just customers.

Not out of context, just what he said. I am not sure which "clips" you would consider to be "not conservative," so if you will do the search for sources you trust, I am sure you will find that those sources also say he said electricity rates will necessarily skyrocket.

They don't own public utilities, you can buy stock in public utilities. They regulate them heavily because they are granted monopolies.

None of those give the entire answer. They are cut off to eliminate the explantation. Seriously, do you know how cap and trade works to reduce emissions ?
Coal is so dirty, it requires going to another source as it’s too expensive to clean up. . The dirtier the fossil fuel the more expensive it’s suppose to be. You’re so poor at making an argument.

People really should read the small print. In my state, we have something called "budget billing," which means they average your bills and charge you the average, so it's easier to budget. Trouble is people assume that will be their amount forever and ever (or at least for a year), but every year, if you won, they charge you the difference. So you will really not save any money ever. These folks should get some help with this, as no one ever could have imagined that this would happen.

So, all you got is “they’re Republicans”? By the time the next election rolls around the devastation Bidwn has wrought on the oil and gas industry will be fresher in their minds.

Just wait until the suits start. We’ll see if a “contract is a contract.” Then there’s election time. Democrats will work this big time. They’ll even make sure those who are bankrupt all get to the polls.
