The Senate parliamentarian has ruled that the $15 an hour minimum wage cannot be included in the Covid stimulus relief bill, which congress sent to the senate, in order to pass with a simple majority. With it in the bill 60 votes would be required for it to pass.

It should not be in any relief bill.

I prefer to leave this up to the states, though some kind of raise in the federal min wage is warranted.

    1. The stimulus is about covid 19.

    2. 15 dollar minimum wage has nothing to do with covid. It's more pork. Again.

    3. The Democrats said people were starving and needed money before the election and also stated they could get stimulus money out quicker but we have seen NOTHING.

    4. The Democrats are liars who want b's added to the stimulus package. They don't care that people are starving. They only care about what they want.

Remember this pork? The Democrats are so lame.

In 2018, the federal minimum wage of $7.25 was worth 14.8 percent less than when it was last raised in 2009, after adjusting for inflation, and 28.6 percent below its peak value in 1968, when the minimum wage was the equivalent of $10.15 in 2018 dollars. This decline in purchasing power means low-wage workers have to work longer hours now just to achieve the standard of living that was considered the bare minimum half a century ago.

Bottom line, MW has not kept up with inflation by a longshot.

Do you know what percentage of workers making just FMW are of the national workforce, or the demographics of that group?

Not only does the minimum wage need to be raised but so does the minimum paid to tipped employees as more and more Americans frequently stiff their waiter or waitress

Republicans have made counter-offers and I think we might actually get somewhere with this, separately from the covid bill.

Hawley, of all people, agrees with something pitched by Ron Widen using tax penalties to force large corps to raise their pay. It's an interesting idea.

Josh Hawley endorses Democratic 'Plan B' to hike minimum wage (nypost.com)

The moderate wing and the Trump wing of the GOP agree on a $10/hr. wage. This opens negotiations to something in-between. I support document verification. I don't know if E-Verify is up to the task, but I support an unobtrusive system of employment eligibility checks.

Senators Mitt Romney and Tom Cotton unveiled on Tuesday a proposal for a $10 federal minimum wage, to be implemented over the course of four years with a slower, phased approach for small businesses. Their bill also requires employers to use the federal government’s E-Verify program to ensure they are not hiring undocumented workers.

Republicans unveil two minimum wage bills in response to Democrats' push (msn.com)

I'm optimistic. Kinda shocked, actually. This is unity, as ugly as it may look (to me anyway.)

Members of congress who strongly support the $15 minimum wage claim that 32 MILLION American full time workers were making less prior to the Covid turndown in the economy. Single mothers are heavily represented in this extremely high number many of them relying on Federal welfare benefits to supplement their grossly inadequate wages.

The Senate is split evenly, and the effective majority party is using reconciliation to pass legislation while circumventing the filibuster. The Senate parliamentarian blocks something that party wants to pass and infuriates its members. The parliamentarian, usually an obscure position, comes under intense scrutiny and even calls to be fired.

    Sound familiar?

The year is 2001 and Republicans are livid with two rulings from the parliamentarian that made it more difficult for the GOP to get then-President Bush’s proposed tax cuts and budget passed.

First, parliamentarian Robert Dove said Republicans could only go through reconciliation for one, not a series, of tax bills. Then, he said the budget package could not be passed through reconciliation if it included $5 billion to deal with natural disasters.

So, Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott (R-MI) fired him.

Oh No!!! Not single mothers!!! For the grace of god. Don't Democrats get tired of launching the same moldy narratives?

First, Mom is mom and single because LBJ made fatherless homes a requirement for his welfare trap. Most of these mothers are African American because Democrats sold minorities a bill of goods ,,, economic slavery that replaced the Democrat Plantation and physical slavery. Open borders are part of the game because being illegal, illegal employees are not protected by the law. Democrats were aghast at the number of African Americans that supported Trump and they have to do something ,,,, like throw them on the street so the Dems can ride in donning their white hats once again.

Limiting the minimum wage to large corporations will undermine the effects, which normally are recession and unemployment. The minimum wage is intended as an entry level wage. Large corporations already pay more than $15 / hr for entry level workers in skilled positions. Large companies love Democrats because Democrats supply cheap illegal labor and regulations that strangle small businesses who would otherwise compete with them.

Harris could have over ridden him, but wouldn't.
    That's odd considering this video.

For those who believe in the constitution, it's not an enumerated power of the Federal government, and is thus delegated to the states. If they want to apply it to federal employees only, then that's in their realm, but not to the nation as a whole.

Though I very much doubt that any federal employee makes less than $15 per hour anyhow.

And the Dems are jumping up and down and stomping their feet throwing a tantrum because they don't want to follow the rules of the Senate.

If jumping up and down and throwing a tantrum means the Democrats took the $15 an hour minimum wage out of the bill and passed it through the house without it, then you are right.

"Some Democrats, though, brought up a way around that: Have Harris, with her technical constitutional power as the president of the Senate, overrule the Senate parliamentarian and keep the $15 minimum wage provision in the bill."

An extremely rare last to happen back in 1975 because they can't have their way so now they are jumping up and down stomping their feet.

And yet the democrats insist on importing more poor to flood the labor market when they know that a labor shortage is the key to increased wages.

No kidding. Is there a shortage of unskilled labor or n the country already? NOPE!!! But Democrats think we need more, because with their usual pandering, they’ll get more votes. Don’t worry single Moms. We’ll pay you instead of daddy. Just vote D.
