The Republican Party is the biggest threat to American democracy today. It is a radical, obstructionist faction that has become hostile to the most basic democratic norm: that the other side should get to wield power when it wins elections.

A few years ago, these statements may have sounded like partisan Democratic hyperbole. But in the wake of the January 6 attack on the Capitol and Trump’s acquittal in the Senate on the charge of inciting it, they seem more a plain description of where we’re at as a country.

I know some will take issue with the article but please note the sources contained within. The article itself is not the source but rather a consolidation of sources.

And perhaps the most interesting chart:

What can be done about the extreme nature that have taken over an entire political party in the United States? One that exists only to derail progress and make advancement as difficult and arduous as possible?

The primary cure to the sickness of Republicanism is sunshine, followed by 4-?? ultra-boring years of competent leadership at the top.

That plus ensuring every eligible American votes in EVERY election like their lives depend on it, because it does. Your life doesn't mean **** to these people...

There are some major voter disenfranchisement campaigns going on in Republican controlled states — the gerrymandering alone should be illegal. They know their ideology is rejected by the average American, they no longer care...

Hmm... well, in about 6 major urban areas, it sure seems like "every" american voter sure did... lol....And when this house of the cards finally implodes, we can thank Uncle Joe for at least admitting that he had "the best voter fraud" team around.

You know what the cure is? Honesty. And isn't it about time we are allowed to discuss it.

Why try to peddle this misinformation? This is exactly the kind of propaganda that democrats expect their faithful to repeat. And here you are.

What piece do you believe is misinformation?

Do you have a source that refutes it?

Your assertion of voter disenfranchisement. Pure BS.

And frankly, you don't have a source that supports your bs.

What purpose do you think Georgia Republicans wanting to end voting on Sunday? Limiting both voting locations and early voting? Ending voter registration drives?

If you need sources I will be happy to provide them, I just believed it had been discussed here enough that it was common knowledge. Maybe you missed it.

    Lindsey Graham:

"If Republicans don’t challenge and change the U.S. election system, there’ll never be another Republican president elected again,"

"Mail-in balloting is a nightmare for us," Sen. Lindsey Graham told Fox News on Nov. 8, referring to a form of voting that had been used securely with little controversy for years but was used more often by Democrats in 2020. Graham said that without changes, "we're never going to win again presidentially."

"if we don't do something about voting by mail, we're going to lose the ability to elect a Republican in this country."

    https://www.npr.org/2021/02/28/9708...re-moving-to-fix-elections-that-werent-broken

"The Brennan Center, a nonprofit that tracks voting laws, says that 43 states — including key swing states — are considering 253 bills that would raise barriers to voting, for example by reducing early voting days or limiting access to voting by mail. Lawmakers in a different set of 43 states have proposed expanding voter access, but Republicans have prioritized new security requirements and shorter voting periods."

Seems like Republicans are afraid of the will of the people.

No. Democrats don't get to cry and whine about gerrymandering as they set the worst standard in California and have for well over a decade.

There is no voter disenfranchisement. That's just a crap talking point. This whole thread is based on pure propaganda, but here we are.

Here are some recent articles for those that want to learn what the GOP is up to these days.... besides blind kneeling to the golden calf...

    https://publicintegrity.org/politic...-suppression-never-went-away-tactics-changed/

The good news is that 2020 Georgia proved that even a basic, if hard fought, campaign to get citizens to vote can work.

The more I hear about what Stacey Abrams and her group accomplished, the more I'm impressed...

Also, not really a part of this thread, but it's on butthurt election losers. And this bimbo gets no more initiated threads from me (until and when she settles or loses her Dominion lawsuit)

    SNIP
The Supreme Court rejected two mandamus petitions that Sidney Powell and other “Kraken”-aligned lawyers filed in late December. Those cases were stylized as In re Tyler Bowyer, et al. and In Re William Feehan. The cases took issue with the election results in Arizona and Wisconsin, where Trump lost to Joe Biden.

Settling in for a spring of continued WINNING by the GOP acolytes....

Actually, the vast majority of the worst gerrymandered districts are in Republican dominated states. I am happy to say it should also be illegal when Democrats do it however. Strange that liberals can call out the misdeeds of their “party” while Republicans seem to only be able to make excuses...

If you have an issue with a source please post one that refutes the data. Just screaming “fake news” doesn’t work.

Georgia is going just like VA did. It will be a blue state in a few more election cycles. Texas will be purple in a few more also.

I would actually bet NC goes purple/blue before Texas does... after rather easily grabbing WI and PA senator slots back, I'm thinking NC will get itself a D Senator in 2022, especially if the Stepford T**** runs (I know... that doesn't always help.... Lara T****).

This guy should look pretty good to a NC crowd...

Always the same in states with GOP legislatures restrict voting as much as possible require more forms of identification close down polling stations in busy neighborhoods, try to make voters travel further to vote especially in black areas.

The last two times out of three the GOP won the presidency it was through pure luck because of the fluke of the electoral college. Both times were after losing the public vote. So, what is the GOP to do if they want to preserve their chance to win presidential elections? They could move to the center. Or, they could move further to the RW fringe, while trying to work behind the scenes to reduce turnout (because turnout helps Democrats). Unfortunately for the country, they decided on the latter strategy. The will of the voters be damned.

I'm sure this will be a thread on it's own later this week, when this passes the House, and I'm sure there might be a poison pill hidden deep in there somewhere, but who could seriously be against anything listed in this article for HR1, For the People Act??

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/For_t...r The People Act,117th United States Congress

    upload_2021-3-1_15-30-48.png

I've read for some time that this could be the bill that finally does in the filibuster...
