Stockholm Endures 100% Spike in Covid Cases as Third Wave Hits

The "Swedish Model" strikes again. They didn't learn from the 1st wave disaster, or the 2nd wave and now they seem to be locking down.

I think at this point in US we have reached a balance, where (at least here in Florida) businesses require masks and distancing and it is becoming a second nature for people to take simple precautions, and the numbers are going down. This allows for businesses to remain open, even it not in full capacity. Likewise, FL schools have a choice to be open in-person or remotely. If there are European countries like Sweden who are seeing massive spikes, then we need to stop air travel from/to those countries. Many EU countries don't allow travel from US anyway, so it would not be a big difference anyway.

Swedish health officials said Stockholm has succumbed to a resurgence of the pandemic, after infections soared 100% over the past three weeks.

“We have a third wave of transmissions -- it’s here now,” Johan Bratt, the acting health and medical care director for the Stockholm region, said at a press briefing on Wednesday.

The surge in new cases follows a warning from the government of Prime Minister Stefan Lofven that Sweden might need to enforce its first lockdown since the pandemic erupted roughly a year ago. Such a step would mark a dramatic reversal of the country’s earlier skepticism toward such far-reaching restrictions.

As long as they manage to keep their healthcare system within capacity it shouldn't matter much. People seem to forget that whole lockdown thing was part of the strategy to keep the healthcare system from being overwhelmed. If the goal were to truly eliminate it, we would all be banned from going out in public for several weeks until all the people with it had died or recovered.

 

Apparently it hasn't sunk in yet, COVID AND IT'S VARIANTS TO COME ARE HERE TO STAY! Oh, what will we do?

Here are Sweden's graphs. Deaths are down to 7 per day on the 7 day average. ZERO deaths yesterday.
Their cases look pretty normal compared to everywhere else. Notice the last two days on the graph. This OP is fearmongering.

I always look at yesterday, to get full stats. Sweden is 34 now, zero yesterday, and 7 on 1 Mar.
