Fossil fuel resources will eventually be exhausted. Wind reliability is always a bit sketchy, and more so in some locations than others. Hydro is limited to geographic locations with exploitable flow and elevation potential. Nuclear is not something I consider an option except for limited use. Solar is the ultimate source of clean safe and dependable power.

Regardless of one's opinion and even of one's recognition of whether or not they have sufficient knowledge to hold an educated opinion about the threat of man made warming of the Earth, I have no doubt that oil and gas reserves will one day run out. When that will happen is relative in terms of a lifetime versus a thousand years, each of which amounts to nothing in terms of the age of the Earth. However, the day will almost certainly come when a barrel of oil from the Earth will become about as rare as a pot full of soil in the movie Water World. Let's say 2742, although I doubt reserves will last anywhere close to that long.

Now, solar power is most powerful at the equator. And this is substantial and fundamental. We have the technology to literally ring the earth with an equatorial PV belt, although I'm not sure that we have the resources to do it. Assuming we do, which I think might be a safe assumption, this would be one possible solution to power humanity's needs far into the future.

Another interesting method proposed in 2006 by Matthias Loster is part of my post over in this thread:

Possibly residential power needs could be met locally with sufficient roof top PV coverage and battery banks.

But none of this is receiving funding from the taxes that are being imposed on behalf of saving the Earth from carbon dioxide. Credits are all that are being provided. No government funding aside from tax credits. Someone, please correct me regarding this so I can shut up about it.

Just for you I made this thread my friend, Hahaha, no not really, not totally anyway, it's a subject maybe worth a little bit of debate here if anyone is interested....
