Several earthquakes shook New Zealand in the recent hours. 7.2, 7.4 and 8.1 were the magnitudes, according to the quake website http://geofon.gfz-potsdam.de/eqinfo/list.php.
Tsunami warnings were issued. Stay tuned for more info.

By the way, Greece just had another 6.3 near the city of Larissa, after the 6.3 yesterday.

Check out what Dutch Sinse has to say. Has a youtube channel. He's been predicting this for some time now.

    Harbinger of what?

    Massive Earth Crust Displacement event

Iceland is worrisome. They have had 18 thousand earthquakes in a week, and the fear is that two volcanos might erupt. About 30 volcanos are erupting around the world every day, so it really has to do with the size. In 538AD, one or two volcanos erupted, either in Indonesia or Iceland, and threw Europe into the Dark Ages.

Yeah, and thank God for that. :) Yet still, 8 on the Richter scale is quite a powerful quake that could trigger a tsunami.
The fist 7.2 was pretty close to NZ - http://geofon.gfz-potsdam.de/eqinfo/event.php?id=gfz2021ekhv :(
Btw, I counted 24 aftershocks on the spot and all of them are around 5 or 6 magnitude. (check out the link in the OP).

Maybe it's Earth's not so subtle way of reminding humanity we have absolutely NO CONTROL over the geologic forces that shape her. HEY, Al and Greta, got any bright ideas on how we can prevent these things too?

So it NEVER occurred to Science Deniers that MELTING millions of tons of ICE would alter the WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION on the surface of the planet and that would result in earthquakes?

    Sad!

Which does NOT compensate for the weight LOSS in other areas, if anything it EXACERBATES the problem and INCREASES the STRESSES that result in earthquakes.

Let me make this simple using the example of a seesaw.

You place an equal number of bricks at each end of the see saw so that it is in balance.

You start to remove bricks from one end and place them in the middle over the fulcrum.

The end where you removed the bricks will rise while the other end will go down.

If you take the brick that you placed in the middle and add it to the lower end that will increase the angle even further.

In essence the tectonic plates are like the seesaw and the bricks are like the ice.

The example is just to illustrate the concept. The tectonic plates are more like rafts floating on the molten core of the earth. As with anything that floats where the weight is located will determine which area is lower and which is higher. Shifting the weight distribution means that the "keel" is no longer "even".

Nonsense. There's plenty of stress on the tectonic plates (and has been for billions of years) without reference to the comparatively minuscule surface ice load. Rather than a brick, your example should use a single grain of sand. There have always been earthquakes and always will be, especially along the Pacific Ring of Fire.

Nope, and such knowledge is irrelevant to this discussion. Do you have geology or geophysics knowledge?

    .

New Zealand is used to earthquakes.

But maybe this current shaking is symbolic for those of us who liked "The Lord of the Rings" movie trilogy which was filmed in New Zealand.

    See interesting link:

    https://www.newzealand.com/us/feature/the-lord-of-the-rings-trilogy-filming-locations/

Towards the end of the "The Return of the King" third movie... the ring is destroyed in the Mt Doom volcano, the evil Dark Tower falls and the evil eye of Sauron implodes creating a huge earthquake.

Mother earth is getting back at New Zealanders for being a bunch of white supremacist sheep herding Hobbits. Hope all their little rabbit tunnels collapse on them.

O come on! It's not the melting of ice that's causing earthquakes. It's the heating of the earth that's causing the earthquakes and also melting the ice. Worry about the volcanos. About 30 are erupting on land each day, and who knows how many in the ocean. Wait until the big ones start.

They're starting to hear rumblings under a desert in Utah and fear it's a volcano that's been dormant for over 1,000 years. As for the heating of the inner earth, it has to do with the sun. Now if you're a Christian like me, then you know it has to do with our transgressions towards the world's natural order - among other things.
(A bit of repentance wouldn't hurt).

Continuing with my "The Return of the King" theme [see my previous post]...

In Revelation 16 right after it mentions " Armageddon"... it mentions the biggest earthquake ever [symbolic or otherwise] that splits evil Babylon into three parts.

New Zealand is on the 'Ring of Fire' Indeed the entire Island chain is THERE because of it. The Earth is a living thing, we are less than microbes on it.

Conservatives need to stop reading the Bible and peruse a good text on geology; a fascinating SCIENCE, not a religion.
