I praise the actions of the individual based on his ( or her ) actions. So think whatever you want but don't accuse me of something I am not.
I don't like them Swedes either... I was once thrown out of Sweden, right out of Stockholm airport, and I have a stamp in my passport to prove it. Don't remember what it was for, though...
What he hell did you do insult IKEA ? or Volvo when Sweedes made them? Any how I congratulate you for not telling a SAAB story about your abrupt deportation.
[ What would be devastating for liberals would be Bruce Jenner's "Woman of the Year" award being rescinded.
Doesn't sound important. I never heard of them and both the awarding and removal sound political. How about a free speech award?! Even as he faces crap like this, will he allow himself to be manipulated or stand up for the right to say what he thinks? Also, no one had fought to preserve the first amendment more than Cruz. I respect him beyond nearly all politicians for that alone. A true democracy is built on free speech, through deliberation and verbal opposition, not what the democrats are doing in trying to control and limit what people talk about or say.
You'd be removing a lot of honors then(in general.) No one, not me or anybody is ever perfect. As flawed human beings, we can only do the best that we can and if we make mistakes along the way that's okay. Being okay with our mistakes allows us to grasp for greater opportunities.
Princeton realized they made a mistake in giving Cruz an award and they won't make the same mistake by giving a Republican an award ever again.
The really sad thing here is that the one thing Cruz really does want returned is the one he is least likely to get - his manhood. I mean, what sort of man grovels at the feet of a person who accused his father of being involved in the murder of a President & called his wife ugly. What is less masculine than a beta cuck? Makes Lindsay Graham look like Chuck Norris. I'm betting ole Ted swallows pretty hard. Kneepads indeed. No sign that Donnie plans to give him back the jar with his balls in it, so I can't imagine the folk at Princeton are worried about what he'll do. Maybe an angry glare and a bit of a cry when he gets home.
Not true. I not only praised MCCain but Kasich and Romney and the Republicans of the Lincoln Project and .......... but you must be ignoring that. I do not have any absolute affinity for either part. I have been a ticket splitter almost since I the first time I voted. I have voted Republican almost exclusively for local offices including Bard of Education. I do not trust the local Democrats in schools or on town caincils. Democrats raise sales and real estate taxes too much and too often. They also create and make up"fees" which are just taxes underva "nice" name. That affects my financial interests. My reasons for voting split tickets for national elections is much more complicated. Do not blame yourself for you are not the first who attempted to pigeon hole me politically and you are not the first to fail.
I begun to brace myself after your starting "Not true" but after seeing the list of the Republicans you've praised, I snickered and after your mention of "Republicans of the Lincoln Project" I nearly chocked on a piece of baklava, just sent to me by my acquaintance in Beirut. Nice try!
That is why I don't know it's a good idea to rescind the award. It was given for a reason (at that moment in time). It would be like taking away Bruce Jenner's Olympic medals because he knew he was a woman in a man's body at the time he won them. It's irrelevant how his life has changed since then. He earned the awards at one point in his life and they were valid at that time.
I normally take the stance that if awards are bestowed for a past achievement it should not be rescinded unless they can show the person should never have received the award in the first place. For example an Olympic medal. If it could be shown that the Olympian cheated to win the medal than the medal should be taking away. If all evidence of doping happened after the winning of the medal the athlete should be allowed to keep it even if there is proof he cheated later on in his career. If someone is awarded something that has obligations attached then the award can be rescinded if the person does not live up to those expectations. For example Miss America or an scholarship. For Miss America the winner holds the title for the year and during that time they have to live up to the expectations of the pageant. My initial thought regarding Cruz was that he should be allowed to keep his award since it was for "Distinguished Public Service". That sound like a past tense recognition in which case he had earned the award for past achievements. However at the end of your article it states: That kind of implies an expectation of ongoing service for the recipient. If that is the case it would be a justification for rescinding the award. My only concern is do they review past winners on a regular basis or is Cruz an exception?
Probably best to Google up the list of past winners, place a check beside the Republican ones, then sit and wait for the inevitable.....
There does seem to be a lot of victimhood complaining from some old school conservatives. It is always difficult when your worldview starts to fall into the minority and society moves on.
True. The part that baffles me is they don't seem to understand that feeling of being "disconnected" is exactly how everyone else has felt at some point in time and why nobody should be excluded.
It is human nature and happens with everyone and everything. Not just politics. For example I am a huge Star Trek fan. Then IMO J.J. Abrams came along and broke Trek with his lens flares and destruction of Trek canon. And then Discovery comes out. As an old school fan I rejected the change and complained on all the Trek forums and reddit boards. Other old school fans agree but the bottom line is new fans don't care and want to see the new stuff.
You can have your entrenched opinion but I will by the facts. Snicker all you want but our personal philosophy should not be a topic in current affairs.
