Why are these people out? Why are they not locked down? Everything somebody leaves their house, no scratch that, everything somebody gets pit of bed in the morning, they assume a certain level of risk.

I dont ask anybody to do anything outside the confines of the law to mitigate my risk. Why should we all do something to mitigate theirs? They have a decision to mitigate it by not leaving their home.

By keeping the virus alive and circulating you are sentencing the elderly and others with conditions which make them vulnerable to self confinement, not only is that selfish but also irresponsible.
As a side bonus you are increasing the possibility of more dangerous variants of the virus developing which can endanger a wider range of the population.

 

Scientists say that this virus won't be eradicated and will be just like the flu we deal with every year. No amount of mask wearing or shut down will change that

It is only speculation based upon slowly accumulating data. It's still too early to tell, but similar data is accumulating here in the US, including Hawaii.

Some of those injected end up testing positive in significant numbers.

It is my experience that people rarely bring common sense with them on vacation - particularly younger people. And many were happy to travel to Florida because of the relaxed restrictions - they were itching to get out and mingle.

And what of the folks who are at risk who live in the area? It's something they face every year - the onslaught of spring breaking partiers. But this year, there is the added concern of covid carriers. While DeSantis may have been thinking of the economy of the situation, he wasn't showing much concern for the citizens who put him in power.

 

I think you are on the wrong train here. Your side is arguing that it is racist that the locals are trying to shut it down, not that it is a Covid threat to leave it open. I have seen the videos and it is unbelievably violent (but very diverse). It looks more like a BLM peaceful protest than a spring break party. Already have had a girl raped and murdered.

I have been through many Spring Breaks in Miami ... this one is not typical at all ... many of the people there are not college students ...
