'Sheet Music now Racist at Oxford University

Sheet music removal is now being considered by the University of Oxford as part of innovation that is intended to "decolonize" the program.

Faculty members propose certain classical musical skills should no longer be mandatory, such as playing the piano and orchestral arrangements, given that these are "structurally center White European Music," causing "students of color great distress."

By offering a more inclusive range of musical topics to study like "African and African Diasporic Musics," "Global Musics," and "Popular Musics", the faculty members wish to address the supposed "white hegemony"

Professors also stated that the "vast bulk of the tutors for [Musical] techniques are white men." A proposal allowing students to study pop culture events including "Dua Lipa's Record Breaking Livestream" and "Artists Demanding Trump Stop Using Their Songs."

Even though the University's Music curriculum already includes "non-Eurocentric" course options, the professors proposing changes complained that the school's almost all-white faculty" by default gives "privilege to white musics."

These proposals for change are said to be driven in response to the Black Lives Matter movement.

The same changes are going on in colleges, and elementary schools across the United States, as progressive educators and school board members push critical race theory into classrooms.

No doubt that BLM and Critical Race Theorists are pushing their race baiting-nation-dividing agenda all across America in schools with young students' minds full of mush to get them oriented into a class and race warfare curriculum.

What's next, are we going to be saluting (for those of us who still salute and not kneel) a revised edition of the American Flag that now sports the Red..Black...and Blue colors by eliminating the white in order to appease the Woke crowd, the CRT crowd, the BLM crowd and any other social warriors of the Democrat Party?

 

Sometimes it is good to check one's sources. The Blaze is complaining about the horrors that are taking place at the University of Oxford. They mislead readers into thinking that this effects American culture and values by not mentioning that the school is located in England.

 

So, if, or when, this does migrate to the US, you'll what? Apologize for this post?

That's like someone saying "Harrison Ford is dead" another pointing out that he is not and then the retort, "So if or when he dies you'll what? apologize?" Logic lacking here...

If the source was upset with US schools the article should be about why he is upset with US schools and not use what is happening in a foreign country. The article is misleading and has nothing to do with US school except for the line "the same changes..." Just another attempt to blindly complain about a nothing sandwich.

 

Math has been known for ages to be a most racist form of schooling. Now sheet music joins the cabal. What next the medical sciences?

 

What changes? This is a proposal it has not been adopted at Oxford.

First, nobody here was interested in investing a minute or two to check whether this claim is correct or not (?).
Second, as someone with a degree in music, I could explain how utterly idiotic this idea is (if it were true, there wouldn't be any classical orchestras anymore in the near future), but something tells I'd be wasting my time.

 

Sadly this is very typical. Blind lead the blind.

 

If you don't think musical writing and math skills are racist then you need to re-evaluate your white privilege some more. I think mine's pretty much under control now so that's all good.

What are you even talking about, they're not removing anything, they are adding to their existing curriculum. I don't have a problem with that because that is what Oxford university has been doing for over 900 years

 

The bigger question is WHY IN THE HELL would they offer a course as useless as music? My wife's daughter got that degree and it cost her Dad 60K. She then had to go to school and get a real degree in nursing.... the second time around she had to pay for it herself. She is still angry at her father for allowing her to waste four years of her life on a useless degree.

I have already let my kids know that I will not pay a single dime or cosign any loan that involves anything to do with liberal arts.

 

That is your personal issue, not mine. What you consider useless is your issue, not mine. If unis are expensive where you live, not my issue.
Maybe your daughter should have made a different decision, nothing I can do about that.
When somone wants to study music and make a living by playing/teaching/performing, no problem for me.

The point here is that the claim in the OP is false, a typical example of deliberate misinformation and too many people are not interested in doing some basic homework - checking whether it's true or not.

 

Interesting, first the right wing is up in arms because Western Music is not going to be taught at Oxford anymore, then when that is shown to be complete rubbish its why teach something as useless as music anyway! Which is it, music is part of western culture or music is useless?

 

A past director of a department I was in (health insurance) had a music degree. In fact he also had a masters in music. His goal was to play in a symphony, hence the music degree. Then he realized how little those in lower lever symphonies make and ended up working in health insurance and did quite well for himself, having retired as a VP. I have a history degree and minor in economics and work for a hospital. My wife has an elementary ed. degree and works for a hospital. The moral of the story is no degree is useless. It's what you do with that degree that matters. For many jobs, it doesn't matter what ones degree is in. You're going to get on the job training anyway.
And why is she upset with her father for "allowing her to waste four years of her life"? Did her father force her to go for a music degree??? Obviously she didn't realize she wanted to be a nurse at the time she went to college otherwise she'd have gotten a nursing degree instead of the music degree.

 

Some people just need to be upset about something...even if they have to move the goalposts.

I'm thinking that some of the folks here wake up each morning (or stay up into the wee hours) searching the web with the words 'woke' and 'white supremacist' and other provocative examples. Then they post the latest outrage. In most cases, a quick search proves the error in the post. But hey, we're all breathlessly waiting for the next outrage regarding lefties ruining schools and men pretending to be women to be able to win in women's sports.

No one said they're removing anything; what the first sentence in the OP stated was that racist sheet music is being 'CONSIDERED' for removal. But the bigger concern for we non racists on the right is that we're seeing a worldwide attempt to vilify, demean and eventually make the white race irrelevant, and this attempt or agenda if you will is being fueled by the race baiters on the LEFT side of the political spectrum that is led by such racist-fascist mobs like the BLM. This Oxford plan to further shut whites out of their sheet music curriculum, and the de-colonizing of them is just a another (be it a small part) attempt to wage war against we WHITE people. Now deal with the facts. You might start by supporting the greatest pro-patriotic American non racist president in our history by looking over at the guy in my avatar holding tight to the American flag.
