From here: Europe's technocrats play into populist hands with their bungled Covid response

    Excerpt:
She has not always made U-terms so that's an invalid exaggeration.

It's nonetheless time for Angela to take her well-deserved retirement from politics. She did some damn fine work on-the-job, and then Covid happened.

It is nonetheless about time for the EU to decide who/what is their equivalence to a TransNational "Presidency" - and not political machinations to find someone to run the EU ...

Merkel is not running for another term. Three years ago, she announced that she wouldn't run again in 2021. Been common knowledge in Germany that she's very likely to retire in September. However, I don't see anybody especially within her CDU, following in her steps. Mr Laschet, the new head of the CDU and likely candidate for the chancellorship, doesn't cut it IMO, so it might be CSU's Mr Söder.

    MIRACULOUS

The present head of the EU Commission in Brussels is ... German!

Ms Von der Leyen has mishandled the Covid-management and she could be losing her job.

Of course, that job, which should be elective, isn't. She was nominated by the outgoing head of the Commission. So, it is no wonder that the country-heads made her management of the Covid antidote-supply such a muck-up in the EU!

They simply do not take this very-intelligent lady for what she is. Somebody who knows what they are doing! And this Covid-mess in the EU is a Prime Example.

Some country-heads, especially in the East, could screw-up a free lunch. Those countries, without the slightest experience in "democracy-management" are for the most part incompetent. It would help that one of them be found guilty of illegitimate profiteering and be dismissed. Which the parliament in Strasbourg could and should do if misdeed could be proven.

All that is needed is ONE be booted out for illegal-behaviour after a well-publicized EU-trial and the rest will get the message.

The real EU-problem is and will continue to be Language Barriers that separate the East from the West (and the North from the South) - all of whom speak different languages. The point is that the common language for political and economic purposes should be ... uh, English. And it very largely is in most small meetings. But in the all-in-one BigMeetings all the languages are translated into the national language of each participant.

In a way, that the EU should get anything whatsoever done is somewhat miraculous ...

    This is all preposterous!

First, you make the mistake of believing that the EU have power outside of 'do as we say or we won't EU fund you' which in itself is akin beating those into to submission to follow your will but instead of firepower they use economics. -- Which in itself is preposterous because the EU's basket case economy https://www.melaniephillips.com/eu-economic-basket-case-instincts-mafia/
meaning different economies share a currency and rich countries and poor countries have freedom of movement (outside of Covid) meaning there is nothing stopping a worker from butt-**** war torn ex regime nowhere where they'd see 1 Euro an hour, to butt-**** migrant camp or ex regime elsewhere with a dodgy/shady past where they'd see 9 Euro an hour.

But the very notion that ****ing up in a job, can somehow mean that that person is fired or ran out of office, is absurd!

It's like you're ignorant of the facts here, and the fact is, the most anyone can do to hold an EU head to account is to ask them to resign, which they never do.
Even if they resigned (which they don't), (So usually after the full term in completed).. They get shuffled to another un elected seat of power while someone else unelected gets shuffled in.

As for who's German and who's not, does it really matter?
For a country who's national colour is black or grey when feeling colourful; does one part of the backwards field matter over another?
Only in the eyes of the EU, who, let's face it, on the world stage, are nobody.
    They're not even a country.

If they wanted to be taken seriously, less monopoly money, and less red tape EU protectionism for a start.

Until you get to vote for the people who run the EU, you're ****ed, and no one should listen to your or your sabre rattling.
I mean, let's face it, you're the EU, and no one listens to the EU unless you're in the EU, and who are the EU? They're no one.

Merkel is a "power whore", she'll do anything and take on any position to stay in power.

No surprise here you want such a ruler over the EU, and all the more centralized power that entails. No, I think the Germans like the present arrangement the way it is.

Well, maybe if the French were willing to give up their se détendre lifestyle, they could the economic powerhouse of Europe too and get to have some influence in the highest levels.
