Things are also not going well in Iran.

Today, Iran reported almost +21,000 new C19 infections. It will probably end up rank 5 or 6 in +cases for today.

The 7-day rolling average in +cases for Iran is currently: +14,112

One month ago, on 2021-03-007: +8,360

Deaths are also on the rise. On 2021-01-008, the 7 day rolling average in daily deaths went under +3-digits (under +100 per day). Three days ago, on 2021-04-004, it climbed over +100 and is now at +148. To be fair, this is nowhere near the death level from November, 2020 (+400 to +460), but still, the fact that deaths are on the rise is not a good sign.

Correct, the UK decision is to offer alternate vaccine to under 30's, which seems a bit odd since fatal deaths (now revised to a total of 18 or 19) have occured in all age groups, but mainly in younger women. Other EU countries limit use to +55 or +60. EMA to stated today that there is still no certainty that the clot cases and the deaths were caused by the vaccine and does not recommend any restriction in its use, but request that blood clots should be indicated as possible side effect.

Stat's idea of looking at blood groups most affected is interesting and I assume the EMA would look at that.

Aside from the 41 nations I am tracking every day, which account for roughly 90% of all worldwide cases and 91% of all worldwide deaths, I always scan the entire listing of 221 nations, territories and conveyances, just to see what is shaking below the tree.

What I am seeing is that both Portugal and Israel, two of the 41 nations I am tracking, are essentially standing still, a good sign. But where Israel (rank 29) and Portugal (rank 30) had "only" +270 & +602 cases yesterday, 2021-04-008, respectively, the following nations farther down the totem pole have already reported far more cases than those two tracked nations today, 2021-04-009:

Malaysia, rank 46: +1,854 new cases
Belaruß, rank 48: +1,622 new cases
Croatia, rank 49: +2,599 new cases
Azerbaijan, rank 52: +2,256 new cases
Bolivia, rank 54: +1,241 new cases
Palestinian terroritories, rank 56: +2,378 new cases
Kazakhstan, rank 57: +2,440 new cases

Now, that is not nearly on the level of India's +130,000 cases or Turkey's +45,000 but still, added together, will make for +14,390 cases, only slightly more then the daily take of a top 41 nation like Colombia (rank 12).

What we are seeing is that the newest wave is being spread more and more throughout the world. I don't have time to be tracking each and every nation every day, that is just plain old too much work for one man, but occasionally looking at the underdecks can be quite illuminating.

    It's quite unsettling.

Today, India has netted, for the 5th time in 6 days, more than +100,000 fresh daily infections. Right now, the figure is at +144,829, that may move up a little before EOD at WorldOMeter.

Also, Turkey clocked in at +55,791 new cases, moving past Italy and into rank 7 in the Covid-19 total case rankings. France reported +41,243 new infections.

Brazil has not yet reported in, but on Fridays, the numbers out of Brazil tend to be very, very large.

Yesterday, the world netted more than +800,000 fresh infections, all in one single day. Today may end up being just as bad. Wait and see.

The leapfrogging among nations continues apace:

Argentina is on track to overtake Colombia in the rankings during the course of this weekend. Those two nations have run parallel to each other ever since I began tracking them, with Colombia ahead most all of the time. However, Argentina appears to be experiencing a sizeable surge. The question now is: how much of the Brazilian mutation has found it's way to Argentina, because if it's in Argentina, then it is making it's way up Central America as well.

Indonesia surpassed S. Africa (Czechia did the same a couple of days before), Turkey moved upward past Italy, Sweden moved past both Portugal and Israel. Phillippines did likewise a day before.

So, now, for the 1st time since I added 13 more nations to the tracking, extending it from 28 to 41 nations, 2 of those 13 newer nations have supplanted nations in the top 28 that I had been tracking far longer.

With Romania most definitely going over the 1,000,000 mark today, 2021-04-010, making it the 24th nation to do so, that will leave us at current with 2 nations over 900,000 cases: Belgium and Iraq. However, both Sweden and the Phillippines are among the 4 nations in the 800,000-900,000 zone (directly ahead of Israel and Portugal) and they are moving quickly up the rankings. I strongly suspect that by the end of May 2021 at the very latest, these four nations will be the 25th, 26th, 27th and 28th nations to cross the 1,000,000-line.

At the bottom of the 41 nations rankings, Morocco has come to an almost stillstand; Japan is likely to surpass that nation this weekend, followed in the next week by Lebanon and in the week afterward (at the latest) by the UAE. This will leave Morocco as nation 41 among the 41 I am tracking (it was rank 34 not all that long ago). The next nation under that, which I am not yet tracking, would currently be Saudi Arabia, which is just under 400,000 cases, so it will be a while before I will have the need to add more nations to the tracking.

In between is Hungary, which had been suffering a surge, but which seems to have begun to flatten its curve. Hungary and Pakistan are averaging roughly the same number of daily cases right now, with Pakistan (rank 31) averaging +4,666 and Hungary averaging +5,006. The two nations are about 10,000 cases apart from each other, so if they maintain this pace, they will maintain their rankings relative to each other and make a parallel slow march to 1,000,000, getting both of them there in 60 to 64 days from today, in the middle of June, 2021. They will very likely be the 30th and 31st nations to cross the million-mark, leaving both Israel and Portugal behind. But Bangladesh, which is currently just behind both of them, is averaging exactly +7,000 cases per day and should hit the million mark ahead of them, in 47-50 days, making it the 29th nation to do so.

Both Austria and Switzerland (in the 600,000 range) are averaging between +2,000-+3,000 cases per day, it will be a while before either of them appear on the 1,000,000-mark radar screen.

The last nation to keep an eye on for now is Jordan, which may or may not have passed the peak of it's wave.

So, that's how the underdecks are looking right now.

    In the upper-decks:

Germany is poised to go over 3,000,000 cases this weekend, likely today, 2021-04-010.

Oh, and France is likely to crack the 5,000,000-case-mark today, which according to my standards means that it will as of that point in time be screenshotted along the worldwide figures, USA, Brazil and India in the daily concise analyses.

ROMANIA EXCEEDED 1,000,000 TOTAL COVID-19 CASES ON 2021-04-010, IS THE 24th NATION TO DO SO

On 2021-04-010, Romania jumped over the 1,000,000 mark in total C19 cases, making it the 24th nation to reach exceed this metric.

I'll publish the excel-table screenshot and the Romania close up here right now, the WorldOMeter table you can see tomorrow with the full concise analysis for today. Both screenshots are already time-stamped with EOD (End of Day) for today as Romania only provides one set of figures per day and does not change them.

Today, India has already reported more than +150,000 C19 cases. Today is also the 6th of 7 days where India recorded more than +100,000 fresh infections per day.

India is in deep, deep trouble.

Yes. When the world hit its second wave, which was the USA's third wave, starting circa middle of October 2021 and going into late January, India didn't even have a wavelet. As a matter of fact, India's 7-day rolling averages continued to decrease as the rest of the world was going into this massive fall/winter wave. However, India was not part of the 1st worldwide wave, either. It's wave began middle to end of July and ended right before the middle of October, 2020, quasi-dovetailing with the sequence of worldwide waves. If you go to the online excel-table and go to the India tab, just scroll down and keep your eye on columns N and O, looking at the 7-day averages. It can be very enlightening and is exactly the reason why I take the time and effort to record all of this stuff, because these numbers simply do not lie.

What has me really scratching my head is the fact that Pakistan is not really recording a wave yet, and Pakistan has a long border to India. I find it very hard to imagine that the so-called "double-mutant" has not found it's way into Pakistan.

22 million out of 1.4 billion is, however, is only circa 1.6% of the population of that country. I am 100% sure that China has been lying for a very, very long time about its real C19 statistics and estimate that that country has had at least 300,000,000 infections and very likely more than 100,000 deaths, which they are simply not reporting. This again is proof positive that authoritarian regimes and medical emergencies like pandemics do not mix.

There is no way that a country with 1.4 billion people and one of the longest borders in the world to other countries, most notably to India in Aksai Chin, which is a hotly disputed border area, can have only experienced about +11,000 total cases and just +200 deaths in 14 months time. For a nation that immense and a virus that virulent, that is literally, statistically quite impossible.

PS: isn't that article 3 months old now?

That probably has more to do with a failure to accurately report than what is actually happening with the virus itself.

Earlier you reported a rise in cases in Indonesia and yet it is notable that there is not a similar rise in Nigeria given that both of those nations are of similar sizes.

The absence of reliable data does not prevent the virus from spreading.

I am of the opinion that what we are observing has a close resemblance to an iceberg. The reliable data on top is only reflective of about 25% of the total cases and deaths IMO. The remaining 75% is seriously under-reported and it could be decades before we end up knowing the full extent of the havoc this virus has wreaked globally.

Yes, it's old. It just caught my eye because of the numbers and their ability to close down entire cities.
Like you, I'm pretty sure they fudge the numbers, but it's clear by the fact they are open and have been for almost a year now that they are doing much better than we did.
    Just jealous I guess. :)
On a side note: It seems like their vaccine is weak.

Effectiveness of Chinese vaccines ‘not high’ and needs improvement, says top health official (msn.com)

Up to this point today, India has clocked in at just under +170,000 (+169,899) fresh C19 infections, setting yet a new record. That number may yet again shift slightly upwards before EOD at WorldOMeter for 2021-04-011.

This marks the 7th day in a row and the 8th of 9 days where India has experienced over +100,000 new daily cases.
The vast majority of +cases are currently coming from Marharashtra, which is the largest state in India, essentially, India's "California".

If you look at the USA's rise to and above +100,000 starting shortly before 2020-11-003, you will see a similar development and indeed, 10 days after 2020-11-003, the USA was also pushing +170,000 cases, so we have seen this film play out already before, only in a country with 330 million people, whereas India is just shy of 1.4 billion people, so this sudden upward ascent in cases could easily go way over +300,000 or as high as +500,000 per day for a while and as we all have seen over and over in 2020 and already in 2021, massive waves in case ultimately lead to a massive surge in deaths later.

There is not only the question as to when (not if) the double mutant will reach Pakistan and a number of other "stans", but also perhaps Oceana, which until now has done admirably well in the face of a worldwide pandemic.

Sorry, there is a typo in there: "middle of October 2021" should read as "middle of October 2020".

Friend of mine from Argentina said that their stats are bull****.
The tests cost approx Pesos 1,000 and only a certain demographic is being tested.

Today was the 8th day in a row and the 9th of the last 10 days where India has sailed over +100,000 fresh C19 infections, but today, India is already over +185,000. It is closing in on the +200,000 mark far faster than the USA did when it began it's ascent in the fall/winter wave starting on November 3rd, 2020.

The surge in India is very real. It is not a result of drastically increased testing. Here's how I can prove this right away:

22 days ago, India's 7 day rolling average in tests per day went over 1,000,000 and on that day (2021-03-022), India had +40,611 cases, less than 1/4th of the cases being reported today. But as of today, India's 7 day rolling average in tests per day is currently just under 1,300,000. So, yes, testing has increased, but not nearly on the same curve as positive test results. Also, very soon, India's 7 day rolling average in daily deaths will go over +1,000 per day.
