UK was an agrarian society, too. We have absolutely NO excuse. We continued with slave labor long after UK in the UK did, and we were relentlessly white supremacist for decades longer than that. There were forced labor camps of African Americans in Georgia that weren't different than slavery surviving well into the 1900's. I think I understand what you were saying. If you want to try comparing the dollar product of work of slave labor in America over the years, and determine where our wealth came from. But, significant sections of America saw this as enough of an issue to secede - AFTER UK had ended slavery. Today, Georgia hs STILL working hard to discriminate, even on fundamentals such as representation, our policing, etc.. As a society we are NOT equal. I think Ihave solid justification for suggesting we need national change today before we start presenting ourselves as examples of how to proceed.
Again, this still doesn't prove that there are less people who believe in Christ. It may just be the way the question is being asked or interpreted. People leave the organized churches doesn't mean they don't still believe in Christ.
Why do you keep bringing up the UK? Other than its complicity in bringing slavery to our shores what it did is irrelevant to both what happened here and my post. I'm aware of that. I live in the South. I don't think you understand what I said, even though I made myself explicitly clear. Significant sections of America had numerous excuses to perpetuate the existence of slavery, and none of them justified its existence. Again, irrelevant, and again after the UK was complicit in bringing slavery to these shores (although the Native Americans were already enslaving each other). Anything Democrats don't agree with is racist, and we all know who is running the cities where the protests and riots over policing have occurred. Why are Democrats, and most particularly Black Democrats, oppressing Blacks?
That it wasn't exclusively built on slavery does not mean it was not built on slavery. It was. Very much so. This is the quote I was responding to: It is absolutely laughable to claim that the founders of your country deemed or treated everyone as equals. It was land owning male white people who were treated well. Everyone else was not, and that was by their design.
America is losing its religion — and the effects will be long-lasting New surveys show Americans' membership in communities of worship has declined sharply in recent years, with less than 50% of the country belonging to a church, synagogue or mosque. Why it matters: The accelerating trend towards a more secular America represents a fundamental change in the national character, one that will have major ramifications for politics and even social cohesion. By the numbers: A Gallup poll released last week found just 47% of Americans reported belonging to a house of worship, down from 50% in 2018 and 70% as recently as 1999. https://www.yahoo.com/news/america-l...093028404.html
Making progress against discrimination is not so easy as you imply. And, it is certainly nothing like your point about "Democratic" cities. Cities run under state law. Today wwe see states like Georgia and North Carolina that are not representative of those in the significant cities. North Carolina has gerrymandered to the extent that minorities are seriously underrepresented at the state level - just one of the tactics of assault on democracy. Plus, cities have Republicans whose influence Democrats have to overcome. It's not as if Democrats are unified on everything in the way that you imply. We see this problem in the Senate where NOT ONE Republican senator voted for the COVID relief bill that a majority of Republicans favored - major disfunction carried out for nothing but raw partisan political power that has NOTHING to do with what's best for America. So, we have Georgia assaulting voting rights even though there are Democrats in Atlanta. We have North Carolina gerrymandered to the point where minority populations have far less representation than their numbers warrant. We have Republicans demanding that the gun law of Wyoming HAS TO BE the gun law of Atlanta. Etc. And, then YOU come along and blame Democrats for not being able to cram America's view of equal opportunity and personal security from police down the throats of Republicans.
How did Jesus organize his church? Wasn't he a practicing Jew at the time of his death. The Christian religion/Church was to a large degree organized by Paul, a man who never met Jesus nor heard him preach.
By that reasoning, what society was not "built on slavery", as every civilization and group practiced this?
