Pete Buttigieg: Racism is 'physically built into' country's highways

Wow, can't get ID's, now they can't even drive, catch a bus, get a cab to work.. They be totally hosed in Wyoming were there is generally forty miles to the next town and same distance to work.. With much of it on dirt roads!

How do you figure that? Don’t worry I took my socks off, so you can’t blow them off.

 

Cracks me up that a good majority of our highways were built at a time when it was illegal in many state for a black person to drink from the same water fountain as a white person, but it is inconceivable to some people that racism might have played a part in how highways were laid out.

 

Then prove it.. And even if you find concrete facts behind it are your proposing ripping them up and doing new highways? Where would these highways be? What has to get torn up to build the new "non racist" highways?

Nothing has to be torn up, that is just stupid.

There is no harm in acknowledging the sins of our past. This might be a total shock to your little system, but the US is not perfect, we do not have an unblemished history.

We are a great country, but we are far from perfect

True there is nothing wrong with recognizing mistakes and wrongs commited by the USA in the past. Such recignition has always been taught and the US never displayed as perfect

1. People in this thread are bending over backwards to find something racist in roads. Is it racist if a road is too far away from minorities? What is the distance a road needs to be from a minority not to be racist?

2. No matter how much the left wants to see racism in roads, there's certainly no racism in roads today. So why did Butti bring it up? What was his purpose of mentioning it?

3. The left sees racism in everything, but not Oakland or Boston.

4. Name a person, place or thing that isn't racist and never will be. No one on the left is brave enough to answer this question and I've asked it a few dozen times.

Nope, that is why I would not dismiss the idea out of hand, having some knowledge of race relations in those times.

I find it funny as hell that you people find it totally inconceivable that a state that did not allow black people to drink out of the same water fountain as a white person could be a tad racist in their highway planning.
