Johnson is one of my favorite presidents. In order to pay for college, he taught Mexican-American children at a segregated school. He vowed, that if he had the power, that he would change the system so that in America, that no one should grow up poor and hated. He beat Goldwater in the greatest landside in modern American history. Goldwater's campaign slogan was, "In your hearts, you know he is right". By which the popular culture yelled back, "In your guts, you know he's nuts". It is rumored that it was Goldwater's humiliating defeat and Nixon's support of environmental protections, that inspired Joe Coors and friends to found the Heritage Foundation in an effort to "teach" American's the right way to think, the right way to think. The crowd that became the Trump's base have been being cultivated since the early seventies. It is not like FOX News and right wing radio just popped up out of nowhere. They were well planned and financed from the beginning.

Well, considering that I criticized the modern Welfare state for its failures, one then notes the controversial Johnson administration(which is probably why you led off there.). Of course, no one should grow up poor and hated. The latter can be helped, the former(hatred) is something that's sadly within each individual. Despite laws, hate crimes, etc(which in of themselves have become of late a political weapon not an actual criminality of law.) hatred not only has not gone away, it has festered.

I admit, it festered within me. There's different levels of hatred, there's levels of hatred that breed violence and spew violent words, I'll never get to that level(even if I internally feel it, I'd never act on it and calm myself down.). And then there's hatred that breeds pure contempt for the system.

As you can tell, and in our discussion I have hatred with pure contempt for the system. I acknowledge that Republicans focus on militaristic welfare, and all too often appeasing corporate interests in their own right has contributed to the problem.

But the alternative(Democrats) is simply every failed social program from the 70's onward, usually in the form of some misguided mandate or the other.

If you look at the campaign slogans of a Democrat starting from the end of the Kennedy presidency to the modern day, it is sickeningly the same. Aren't you tired of your own party promising you the moon, but can't even give you a well made cracker with cheese?

When I had come of age, I thought the greatest threat we faced was conservative censorship of science. After all I had read enough science histories to understand the anti-science sentiments throughout many segments of humanity. And, of course, liberalism is based upon the scientific way of looking at the world. That through technological innovation we can improve the human condition. To this day, it can be seen where technological innovation thrives, so does liberal thought. It is as if they are one and the same. Boulder Colorado is the most liberal city in America. In the last election, 77% of the voters voted for Biden. It is common for Democratic candidates to win by a 2 to 1 margin. It is the least religious city in America and one of the most educated. It also has the highest concentration of technology companies in the county, the highest concentration of tech workers. One of the healthiest counties in the country. That is what liberalism is, that is what a liberal oasis looks like, not the silliness conservatives like to complain about.

I just read Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park written in 1993. In the forward, he noted the change in science that had taken place since the 70s. Basically pure science has been transformed into a profit making entity. He considered it the greatest risk to science. Science before 1970 was done to expand knowledge, not profit. That is no longer true and it may explain the rise of Lysenkoism of the left, proving the "science" now involves propaganda campaigns more than peer review.

Those with an ignorance of history are doomed to repeat it. It is an absolute crime that Trofim Lysensko whose scientism resulted in the deaths of tens of millions of people is completely unknown to the vast majority of progressive social warriors who appear to be following his footsteps.

Lysenkoism..........In time, the term has come to be identified as any deliberate distortion of scientific facts or theories for purposes that are deemed politically, religiously or socially desirable.

Like climate change denial. Sounds like the guy would fit right in with Trumpworld.

Technology is applied science. It has taken a whole lot of science to make the cell phone possible.

Let us get off the “ peer review” standard. It primarily applies to publications. The more prestigious publications will ask noted experts on the feasibility of a particular article. It says nothing about the net effect of what is being written. They just tend to weed out the crazies. The acceptability comes later as other scientists read the articles and work the math. If it is reasonable and useful, the ideas will last, if not, they die. It is in the back and forth where science moves forward. Most scientists work for corporations. A lot of R&D work. Koch industries employees thousands of scientists, even though the Koch brothers have spent a fortune funding science denial.

In the seventies, Joe Coors and friends founded the Heritage Foundation, the think tank behind FOX news and modern Republican ideology. Joe came from Golden Colorado where his family makes beer. He was upset that Nixon had supported and pushed for the EPA. A few miles away in Westminster there was a small group of conspiracy theorists who were upset that Nixon had taken the US off the gold standard. Never mind that the US hadn’t been on the gold standard for a long time, Nixon was just making it official. Out of their disgust, they founded the Libertarian Party. Up in Boulder and over in Kittredge, a different ideology was forming. Out of the peace, love, flowers, and environmentalism of the sixties grew a technological revolution that was about to explode on America and the world. It was essential, that America support such a revolution. As the Republicans were not likely to support advancing technology, it fell into Democratic hands; which makes sense as tech people tend to lean left. And there you have it, the politics of modern America worked out by opposing forces in a twenty mile radius in Colorado, the center of the universe.

Attaching a ridiculous label related to communism to Blue is born of fallacy - and it was the right who transformed science into a profit making entity - such that the risk to science is great.

Most of these tech billionaires would qualify as libertarian, and the companies are free market corporations.

Just because right wingers make IDIOTIC unrational claims regarding certain things on social media which the companies choose to edit out has nothing to do with liberals, they are making a PRACTICL CAPITLIST business decision.
