    His death wasn't accidental.

Not really the same issue. Tasers, at least the ones I know are colored and shaped differently to Police service pistols. An officer should be able to tell which of the personal issue items he/she has drawn - it is after all his/her equipment and as such carried every day as a matter of routine.

On the other had identifying a firearm from a distance in a brief instant?

Oh, we're allowed to panic. We're just supposed to do it later, like at the end of our shift.

She's a 26 year veteran. Something is very wrong.

True. I just added that to show that it's very difficult for some officers to make the distinction in a split second.

Again, though, I think the taser story is just the department's spin on this incident.

    If she made that kind of mistake then she's either;

    - hasn't been 'operational' for many years and given recent circumstances in Minni has been put back on the street to make up numbers.
    - has only recently been trained to use tasers because she hasn't needed it in previous roles.

Either way this situation is a tradgedy for everyone.

I saw the video, that's clearly what happened. The young man fought, was in the act of escaping, heart rates sky rocket and people do not tend to make as good of decisions under high stress as they do when they have a resting heart rate. He shouldn't have tried to escape and she shouldn't have shot him, which, I'm sure she will readily admit as it's clear from the video that she intended to taz him.

I think that the shape and feel of a taser should be completely different than a firearm. I don't know what she was using, but I don't think law enforcement should ever use pistol grip tasers.

No chance you can fk this up in a high stress situation. Look at all stuffed on the belt.

LOL! You mean like diversity hiring with pilots in airliners and doctors? Throw out the qualifications?

It could be many things. Those are possible but who puts a 26 year veteran on street duty if she's not qualified? If numbers are needed, there are thousands of civilians in the Twin Cities who could have done a better job. Why did she shout "taser taser taser?" The whole thing looks like Keystone Cops. I don't want to defame the officer, but who is she, and what do we know about her?

Personally, If police were allowed more to use their billie clubs and break some knee caps and shins, then tasers wouldn't be needed. At least they would not need to be carried like a loaded pistol.

You are correct. Something doesn't add up. I haven't found anything yet on who she is or how she came to be on the street that day but there has to be more to this story. It just doesn't make sense.

Given that he was wearing a Jean jacket, how effective would the taser have been? She basically called off the officer who has a good grip on the guy with her "taser, taser" nonsense.

I am very curious why I can't hear the gunshot in the video. I would like to see and hear the other body cams as well as the dash cam. Shouldn't be an issue to make public immediately.

If she mixed them up, how the hell was she qualified to be a police officer? Affirmative Action run amuck?

Someone posted this on Twitter. I don't know if this is the actual code for the department where she worked but it's probably very similar to something like this.

Please stop being flippant. There have been white male cops that have killed people. No need to drag this into the gutter.

Absolutely sickening what happened. Young man lost his life, tragically and woman office life will forever be effected. Sure we will see her on trial. My thoughts and prayers go out to all those involved.

side question.......what does breaking into footlocker and stealing Jordan’s have to do with protests?!Someone please help me understand that mentality.
does rolling a shopping cart out of Walmart loaded with 4K TVs really help the avarage US citizen understand the pains and issues that they are dealing with. Please help me understand that mentality.

I think you could have just added this "development" in an ongoing situation to the thread that has ALREADY been started on this story.

Me neither. I don’t carry a taser as I’m no cop. So I don’t have to worry about that. Whichever gun I pull will be loaded with either .380 bulletts or 9mm.

Did they mix up the taser with a gun?

That's the thing with Tasers, it might have worked quite well depending on where it hit, it might not have. Nothing is 100% even under ideal conditions. If it didn't work first time in that scenario you could always close and drive stun (place the Taser electrodes firmly against the suspects body and pull trigger again).

That' a lousy duty rig. Bad ergonomics, bad tactical arrangement and a chiropractors wet dream.
