Yes, do a few years, released back to her family and work for Walmart or something (in a previous post I was mistaken, I read that she was a '26 year veteran' and thought she was only 26, she's actually 48 with 2 adult sons).

No, she made an honest mistake in a heated situation, could have happened to anyone. I'm sure she feels terrible but she shouldn't, this idiot created the situation and got himself killed.

You mean the idiot who reached for a concealed weapon and got himself killed?

Playing simon says with an assault rifle is a depth of cruelty unfathomable. I only lament that he wasn't your best and only friend.

Most defendants will appear in court in response to a mailed summons.
There are far too many physical arrests in America. Armed police are tasked to do things that do not require an armed response. For instance almost all traffic stops, which are all very dangerous for police officers, are unnecessary.

But it's usually the most dangerous and most harmful perps who REFUSE to answer a court-issued summons.

What are we supposed to do? Should we just let it slide forever, or, wait until they commit even worse crimes than the one they were commanded to appear for in the first place...?!

Hint: letting perps and suspected criminals decide which rules they will follow, if any, is a bad (BAD) idea.... :icon_jawdrop:

Most defendants will appear when summoned. Especially given the ability of defense lawyers to keep almost all of them out of jail.
IMO, armed police should only confront those charged with violent crimes.
Arming the general public would eliminate virtually all public street violence instantly.

That is a far better solution.

Send the armed police whenever that happens instead of having them stop motorists for minor traffic offenses, or sending them to arrest someone for selling "loosies".

the problem there is that people charged with non-violent crimes often commit violet crimes, and the police should protect themselves. It's not like criminals are suddenly going to give up their weapons, especially if they know pointing a gun at an unarmed cop will let them walk away.

I'm not sure if you're serious here. Daniel Shaver didn't reach for a concealed weapon. He was unarmed. He was the guy on his knees in this still image from shortly before the police shot him.

Did you maybe mix him up with some other shooting? Philando Castille or someone else?

An ARREST WARRANT is an ARREST WARRANT is an ARREST WARRANT.

If we're just going to roll over and let perps and criminals make the rules then we're already hopelessly ruined!

    Then punish them.
"Catch and release" is designed to fail.

    For minor offenses:

Step 1. Send them a summons.
Step 2. Bench warrant for failure to appear.

Most will appear if there is a downside for missing a court date. In a system where judges do not punish for a failure to appear arresting the perp should be a very low priority for police.

Police cannot fix a broken criminal justice system, and should stop trying to do what the lawmakers and the courts refuse to do.

Only where systemic institutional racism has worked to destroy the families, communities and cultures of racial minorities.

The unarmed police should never attempt to use force.

I could never be friends with anyone who would do something so idiotic

They shot him because he kept reaching into the small of his back as if going for a weapon, when they told him time and again not to.

I’m afraid that since I’ve done that job, you’re not going to talk anyone into doing it unarmed. Just sayin.

Most police should not do anything that requires a firearm.
IOW, they should not look at all like armed police.

Actually, the sad but brutal truth is that 'racial profiling' has worked surprising well.

Reflect on this: Blacks commit more crimes of violence on a per capita basis than any other American racial or ethnic group.

They don’t do anything that “requires” a firearm until someone makes it really important that they have one.
Dude, you’re not going to get anyone to do that.

Given the toxic, anti-police attitudes in some parts of America, I'd rather they were equipped with full combat gear whenever they go out in public.

Maybe the violent criminals that we have so many of everywhere would murder fewer police officers if our police were fully protected and armed to the teeth!
