    You don't get it.
The anti-gun left demands more and more and more unnecessary and ineffective restrictions on the right to keep and bear arms.
The anti-gun left offers law=abiding gun owners nothing in return for these restrictions.
Thus: The anti-gun left does not offer compromise - it demands acquiescence.
There's no rational reason for the gun-owners to "cooperate".

What do YOU think should be done.........if anything?? It is sad that politics is such a big part of this issue. It is a safety issue........and a societal issue. How can anyone say (with a straight face) that cops offer safety .......when there are so many police doing the shooting? The problem is that so called responsible gun owners can become erratic abuses of weapons if the g o into a crisis. (emotional).....

And how come the man who shot eight people and committed suicide *fed ex,,fall through the cracks ....... after his mother had warned that he might do this a year ago?? Oh yes... that pesky mental health issue to at so many choose to ignore....... or see as a weakness.......( as folks in the dark ages

It is so much easier to talk about the type of gun that was used, blame the victim, ......as opposed to looking at his a s deep rooted cultural issue.........I tis not just eh weapons........it is the attitude that has been programmed into folks about the whole weapons thing....... Folks are so scared about losing / defending their liberties.........that they have allowed FEAR to control them as strongly as any authoritarian would. What folks don't seem to realize is that if one is afraid....one is not free.

    About violent crime?
    Punish offenders.
Except people to behave like civilized humans, not savages.

Peer pressure from family members,, friends and society in general.
Decide as a society that certain behavior is unacceptable and ostracize those who engage in that behavior.
If they choose to engage in that behavior, exile them from you life.
And if they commit a violent crime, make the punishment swift and harsh.

Absolutely right. This "stand your ground" is the mentality of Neanderthals.

By providing them with civilized means to solve social problems and to eliminate (or reduce) the primitive ones.

And yet "____" (fill in the blank) call it a sign of freedom. "Leader of the free world" and "Leader of Democracy". The statistics and international index thoroughly disprove this but I guess "____" (fill in the blank) must be illiterate.

EXACTLY........ and creating a society that reinforces solid and advanced education, constructive problem solving ( as you say) and civilized conduct. It can start with something as simple as good manners. (something sorely lacking in this very aggressive instant gratification culture

The problem might not be the weapons as much as the peple who want to keep doing things the way they were done over 200 years ago.

As the number of shootings accelerate........the cycle of violet is self perpetuating and self reinforcing. People who are not prone to do serious introspection........... will remain stuck int this cycle as the social fabric deteriorates..

Sorry, but Neanderthals had bigger brains than Homo sapiens.
And because they couldn't throw projectiles like we can, any
bad encounter would mean they would have to walk up to you -
something cowards with guns don't do.

    * "self perpetuating and self reinforcing".
    Yes!

    * "The problem might not be the weapons as much as the peple who want to keep doing things the way they were done over 200 years ago."
I've been saying that for years. So I'll say it again:

'If it's the person pulling the trigger (not the gun) that kills then Americans (who want to keep doing things the way they were done over 200 years ago) clearly need to be the last population to have access to guns. Can it be stated any more obviously than that?

Surely you don't mean that. There has to be some sort of limit you observe when making these kinds of statements, right?

If one takes what you've written literally, the woman who successfully defends herself from being raped by shooting and killing the rapist, should not have access to guns.

    Certainly you can't mean that.

a weapon is not the only type of self defense. Many women are now skilled in martial arts. What happened to a good dose of pepper spray?? This obsession with weapons is totally out of control. They are also s the line of least resistance as a self dense tactic. It is the most expedient and the causality list keeps growing. Mind you it also keeps the lawyers in business.

I agree with you one thousand per cent. Plus the question begs asking ...... why are people so preoccupied with this thing called "self-defence"? Is such a large percentage of rapists and robbers compelled to carry out their crimes because there is a lack of guns? Silly question, right? Imagine the wealthy bank manager raping and robbing Mary Lou and then claiming that he had no choice because she wasn't armed with a pistol. "Your honour, I ask you ... what red-blooded American wouldn't rape and rob an unarmed woman? Women without guns are actively provoking men to rape and rob them and no two ways about it." Or could there be some other reason for raping and robbing? Hmmmmmm :confusion:

LOL....... It is really quite ludicrous, sin't it??

One might say that it is not all that rational. It is like doing the same thing over and over......while expecting different results.

If the need for self defense is so great .....one has to assume that the nation is very unsafe..........and sadly........one cannot describe the US as a safe nation.. All those rapists, robbers, mass shooters, gangs, racial tensions, teenagers carrying...... It is an exaggerated state of that wild west syndrome
Aggression is a pronounced quality and that leads to aggressive actions......which are frequently violent. One could say that weapons are the symbol for an very aggressive culture. ( a raw aggression .) As stated before ....the whole issue is a lot more complicated......and endemic than just weapons. This aggression is the mask for a lot of fear.

You advocate that a woman must use her fists to fight off a rapist?

And from where does all of that frustration-come-aggression stem? People don't "choose" it.

I'm not sure why you can't see it. Sorry about that.

You are correct. Three people are confirmed dead. I read another tweet that indicated that he (shooter) has sniper training. He's on the run at the moment.

    More from the article.

According to Austin-Travis County EMS, three adults (two women and one man) were pronounced dead at the scene, which took place at the Arboretum Oaks Apartments, located at 9617 Great Hills Trail. ATCEMS says the incident was reported at 11:42 a.m. Sunday.

Police have tentatively named 41-year-old Stephen Nicholas Broderick as the suspect and they’re considering him armed and dangerous. Broderick, a Black male, is said to be wearing a gray hoodie and a baseball cap.

Broderick is described as 5′ 7″ with an average build.

According to the Texas Rangers and Travis County court records, Broderick is a former Travis County Sheriff’s detective and was charged with sexual assault of a child in June 2020.

Sure seems like a lot of them. What could possibly cause this?
