Yes. My in-laws learned the lesson the hard way. They are out of the hospital now, but it hit them pretty hard, and they are not old.

We all have options and they chose theirs.

The problem is that some options affect OTHERS......... as this is a contagious virus. If it did not put others at risk.....it would not be an issue.

Wear a mask and wash your hands when you go to Fla. I hear there is a video on how to do that out recently.

The mask argument is that your mask protects others from you, but if others around you are not wearing one, then you are not protected. Having said that, the vaccines are becoming available to more people, the need for masks will be reduced. I think South Florida businesses will continue to require them for a long time, but that is not a big deal IMO.

We have had the mandate removed and it's a mixed system now. People are wearing them by choice and others are choosing not to. Watching the Rangers baseball game it was easy to see that it is a choice people are making for themselves. Lots of bare faces in the stands and the dugouts behind home plate were pretty much bare faced. Have to wait and see if we all die from it.

Others should keep their distance and watch their personal hygiene and they'll be ok.

We see Florida back to 800,000 cases, and frankly, my cynical self suggests that the Florida leaders are minimizing the actual numbers in order to get more business.

Now as summer returns and many people go back to northern areas, the COVID may come along.

Not all will die, but some will. Half a million Americans have died so far. Attending such event is a personal choice, but the problem is that you can get infected and then infect others, so your irresponsible choice infringes the well being on others.

It is said that state/government becomes unnecessary if this statement was true:
"If every man has freedom to do all that he wills, provided he infringes not the equal freedom of any other man" - Herbert Spencer

    and

"It is very disturbing how people wrap themselves in a flag of freedom or civil liberties in order to infringe on someone else’s freedoms and civil liberties."

So, what to do? Its a tough call. Should we have the right to infect others around us in the name of freedom? Should the government have the right to restrict our freedoms with lock-downs. Government is mandated to protect the citizens, and yet at the same time citizens are supposed to be "free". Lets just hope the vaccines create the herd immunity so we can put the whole thing behind us. People will complain no matter what the government does, or does not do.

Spring breakers come down to Florida, get infected, and take the virus back where they came from. It was unavoidable, although the crowd sizes down here were far from normal. Hotels do not book every room, and other restrictions are in place. Miami Beach enforced a curfew after the crown got too big, and they are discussing another one for memorial day.

I don't want to spend the rest of my life or have my great grandchildren peeking around corners and under beds to see if Covid is hiding there. Live your life and I'll live mine and we are all going to adjust to changes as they come. This is an ugly disease wherever it came from but it's here now and we will live with that.

I don't believe masks have much value at all other than being a control mechanism. I wear one when I go into a business till I see what the general attitude of the staff and customers will be and then I wear or remove it as is acceptable. I wear it so you will feel good, not because I believe it will save either of us. Change has been slow since the mandate was removed in Texas but it is coming.

Which is why I said "Lets just hope the vaccines create the herd immunity so we can put the whole thing behind us."

Whether or not you want to admit it, but when your choices infringe on the freedoms of others, then a line is crossed.

If no one around you wears them, then it becomes pointless. Down here everyone wears them at grocery stores etc, so there is a health benefit, and yes, people around us (especially the elderly) feel safer, which is also important.

It's pointless if everyone around you wears a mask, they are just costume.

So. This is what it looks like.
    upload_2021-4-11_20-14-23.png

Just about everyone in Israel has had one dose of the vaccine.

Imagin NYC with 100 cases a day. :)

Have you had both shots?? We might be looking at a booster shot in a year. The information keeps changing .....as new variants arise. But that is to be expected in a situation as dynamic as this.

I get a new flu shot every year and would expect this to follow that pattern. It's far more likely we will learn to live with this than it will be eradicated.

Pfizer is, I believe, considered effective against the major variants.
