I just joined this discussion and haven't read through all the posts but I have to ask how many Lefties have called this an insurrection?

Would ZERO be a good guess?

It would be an awesome guess, because "lefties" seem to know word definitions...

In their own selective and inconsistent way (referring to the guilty parties, of course).

    Especially, given these Earth-Shattering DETAILS:

A crowd of about 50 people gathered outside the federal courthouse Thursday night. Windows were broken and a fire was set to the plywood facade covering the front windows. Police quickly put the fire out.
    __________

I am surprised that all of the major broadcast networks (and all of the major media outlets) aren't covering the story (more intensely than 9/11).
This is clearly the most egregious attack on a Federal Building since Tim McVeigh rolled into OK City.

50 people? 50 Federal Death Penalty Cases (just waiting to be prosecuted).

    Major stuff, to be sure.

With all of the massive coverage needed for this massive civilization-altering event, I am sure that they are contemplating postponing the Oscars.

Hopefully, they can use a combination of public and private funding to rebuild this structure, which is now a total loss and has reduced to a pile of smoldering rubble.

Apparently, the massive blaze was visible from outer space and it made the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 look like an unlit match.

    Godspeed on the rebuild.:salute:

Hopefully, the government can find a suitable temporary location.:flagus:

It is a bit misleading, calling it a courthouse. There are two other nearby federal courthouses that are not seeing any protestors. The problem, I’m sure, is the fact that the Mark o Hatfield Courthouse is mostly an administration building. Homeland Security is headquartered there.

The protestors are anarchists. They see Homeland Security as a step towards a dictatorship. The City of Portland has refused to fully cooperate with Homeland security. Plus, the Homeland Security officers were aiding and abetting the violent right wing gangs who kept invading Portland.

It is one of the primary differences between liberals and conservatives. Liberals aren’t too keen on a police state. Something conservatives/conformists/Republicans/authoritarians, seem to yearn for.

It is so sad, as it was the last building standing in Portland. The whole city looks like Yemen, piles of rubble were whole neighborhoods once stood. On a sunny day, which is very rare in Portland, starving children can be seen sifting through the rubble, searching for something to play with, perhaps something to eat.

If that's all true, then they should stop protesting (or find a better outlet) since the wanna-be dictator is gone and Joe isn't going to dismantle DHS. Also, hopefully Mayorkas will help suppress the RW invaders instead of supporting them..

I guess anarchists are never happy.... may I suggest they try Fantasy Baseball??

Got all those raging fires out yet?? How many acres of the city have burned beyond recognition??

In other words it's still a federal government facility...

We all know who those nihilistic idiots are...

    Cute conspiracy theory.

First of all, Leftists aren't liberals, and Leftists have always been fond of police states, from the one in revolutionary France to the one in the Soviet Union and elsewhere beyond the Iron and Bamboo Curtains, to the one John Brennan and the rest of the totalitarian and authoritarian Left dream of building in this country.

Gulags and Guillotines - "progressives" have always been and always will be the enemies of individual freedom.

Still on the senility line, huh.... OK, I still think "too far left" is your better argument (it's terrible, but still marginally better) but push whatever nonsense you like....

    Joe's old, but he's Gold....

I wonder if the guy wearing a jacket labelled TROLL voted for Joe??

I do not know if it is entirely true, but when I lived in Colorado, it was often said that many criminals would flee to Oregon because Oregon would not extradite anyone. There were even a few widely publicized cases illustrating that fact Whenever I watch one of those shows about serial killers, it seems an inordinate number of them come from the Northwest. The anarchists are of the the same sub culture as that that caused the WTO riots in Seattle awhile back. From Montana and Wyoming to Washington and Oregon, there is a lot of anti federal government mentality. Mostly it is conservative and openly Christian, and all that implies, in the Whitest part of the country. A lot of 2nd Amendment fanatics, UN haters, and anti globalists. But there are also socialist elements, as in communal living, even some environmental protectionism.

Before the internet, if one went to an alternative book store, one could find dozens of magazines that centered around the anarchist mindset. A lot of self sufficiency articles. How to live without an income.

I loved the Northwest even with all the "quirkiness" ... started out in Pt. Roberts 1986 which had a very cool Icelandic immigrant community and quite a few draft dodging hippies ... only a few hundred year rounders but the summer swelled as many Canadians owned summer cottages there ...

moved to the Fairhaven section of Bellingham in late 1987 and went part time to the very liberal WWU until 1991 working on my degree(s) ... we were young with 3 kids but we all benefitted from the very "social" atmosphere of our welcoming community ... we ALL learned so much that we still carry to this day even though I have become a cynic with some hypocritical tendencies ... wish we never left the area but "money" came calling ...

started my book collection in the dusty recesses of Old Fairhaven bookshops ... one commonality of both the right and left of the region was self reliance which was reflected in the literature ... I had no issues with either side back then ...

loaded up the caravan in Fall 91 for an engineering job at a new casino being built in Las Vegas ... that's when life started to suck ...

Some have noticed the recent rioting in Portland has been ignored by the media which is focused on Brooklyn Center:

As to the credibility of your arguments, of the credibility of your ideology, it should be pointed out that this thread, this discussion is about Portland Oregon. It sits on the Columbia River, about 60 miles from the West Coast of the United States. Yet you are showing a video of protestors in Europe, on the other side of the Earth.

    Well, I am not surprised:

I remember when Trump supporters excused the looting at the Capitol because it was taxpayer funded, so those rioters had a right to do whatever they wanted to the building.

Does the same logic apply here?

No one excused what happened on 1/6. But go ahead and try and prove it.
